“COLLISION IN THE PORT YESTERDAY,” The Quebec Chronicle. June 27, 1919. Page 05. --- Ferry Steamer Champion Rams Freight Steamer Corcoran Short Distance From Breakwater. --- The Island Ferry steamer Champion and the American Shipping Board’s steamer Corcoran collided late yesterday afternoon about half way between the eastern end of the Breakwater and Lauzon with the result that both vessels had to put back to port, the Champion's bow being stove in and the stern of the Corcoran being also damaged. It is difficult to state at present what caused the collision as statements from the officers in charge of the vessels will only be forthcoming this morning. Both vessels, however, were going in the same direction, the Corcoran outward bound and the Champion on her way to the Island with the former hugging the Quebec side of the river and the latter the Levis site. When in midstream half way between the Breakwater and Lauzon, it is supposed the Champion attempted to cross in the wake of the steamer and whether the pilot of the latter slackened speed or whether the speed or whether the captain of the former misjudged the distance is a question which will only be known when the statements are given out, but at all events a collision occurred.
