May we all remember that this sacred land was inhabited before European conquest. May we remember that these indigenous peoples and their ancestors acted as stewards of this land, not owners. May we remember that the psychosis that is colonialism and the “new world” fantasy not only killed, tortured and continues to oppress the descendants of the indigenous peoples of the Americas but it totally destroyed the humanity of the colonizer and continues oppress his descendants through hegemony and the constructs of race and so called “whiteness.” Colonialism hurts all not just so-called blacks and browns and so-called people of color. May we cultivate grace, generosity and love in remembrance of our indigenous ancestors and may we share this land with all of our human, plant and animal family, especially the most oppressed among us.
