Happy birthday Frederick Delius
9/18/42... I am obsessed by the wonder of what can be done with words, oppressed by the fear that I can never get at it, never create it with words.

End of year ask meme-the first three since they're all music related! 🎵 😊 🎶
~Asked via ‘End of Year’ Ask Meme’: https://lady-plantagenet.tumblr.com/post/637933219260563456/end-of-the-year-asks~
I am so sorry darling, your first ask indeed seems to have been swallowed up, but this one hadn’t and frankly I’m fairly bad at answering ask memes within a reasonable period of time for some reason. Though I do love doing it (as you can tell I harp on a bit)! I really hope you didn’t think I was ignoring you! I’m just a terrible time-manager. Thank you for asking and giving me an opportunity to share my loves x mwah and happy New Years Eve 😉🤗
1~ Song of the year?
According to Spotify this is my most listened to song from this year. It is unassuming in how sad it is. I’ve read up on Paul McCartney and what he revealed to be the thought behind this song and it’s actually quite simple: it’s about the road he would take on the way to his scottish ranch. Of course the band was breaking up around that time and he acknowledged the effect it had on the tone. But I find it incredibly reminiscent of someone reflecting back on their life and how they have made their peace with the tribulations of being controlled by lady fortune and the end to all the exhuastion that we call life (if you read the lyrics it’s about he is constantly stranded and put back on this road no matter what ~ fairly fatalistic, a message methinks but I may be reading too much into this). Please listen to it, it is glorious and no non-classical song put me in a more doleful mood :(...
2 ~ Album of the year?
These are just some of my favourite songs from the eponymous album: Back to Black. Winehouse’s mixture between the matter-of-fact tone emanating from the jazz melody and her very natural voice and the soulful lyrics and minor scales makes her songs some of the hard-hitting for me, emotionally. She’s also one of the few artists my mother and I see eye to eye with 😂. She also gives me serious post-1476s George of Clarence vibes haha.
I still can’t believe my misfortune! My country was next on her tour but she died right before! A 27 clubber, what can I say. Unholy War is my favourite, but Wake Up Alone is the one I listen to when I am sad. Did I mention, her songs are still somewhat catchy? She will forever be one of my fav, and this album is my all-time 👀.
3 ~ Favorite musical artist / group you started listening to this year?
Ok, the answer is not what I think you were looking for but... I’ll use it as an excuse to plod in about Delius.
I’ve posted about this man loads before, you may have seen ‘Irmelin Prelude’ on my dash loads together with ‘Koanga: La Calinda’ but this is the first year I’ve *really* started listening to him (though I knew A Song Before Sunrise since years ago).
Basically, this guy, Edward Elgar, William Vaughn are the most fatal trio when it comes to romantic era idyllic music. The thing is, as you May know, Victorians had the romantic movement which drew heavily aesthetically from what they perceived the Medieval Agea to be and I think that callback to the simpler time with the woodwinds and such is really what attracted me to them. P.S I invariably listen to this music before I do my historical fiction writing! I’ve only put Delius’ songs because he is the only one I’ve truly discovered this year (the other two I’ve known for ages). Besides I know you love medieval history so I figured you might like something that sort of relates vibes-wise.
Since I’ve reached my audio limit, I’ll post a picture of the album I highly recommend you check out:
Summer Solstice Wishes to All!
So many people love this day! It's bright! It's warm! It's time to do ALL THE SUMMER THINGS!
It's an absolute trainwreck for those of us with Summer S.A.D. My consolation is that, starting tomorrow, the days are getting shorter, even if only by a minute or two; soon, it will be September, and the sun will move south and leave me in peace. Today, I am with my friends in the Southern Hemisphere, celebrating the Winter Solstice, reveling in the cold and dark.
However, I acknowledge the importance of sunlight—plants need sunlight to grow, plants are food, I like eating, etc.
In honor of the good parts of summer, I present this lovely musical selection for your enjoyment.
With thanks to the Church of Satan, who included it in their Summer Solstice post.
For those of you who enjoy the summer, make the most of it! For the rest of us—only three months to the Autumnal Equinox!
