tbh I think if something as simple as a chilidog was likely to snap him out of it, Looking At His Baby Brother would've snapped him out of it sooner (before he went weed-whacker mode on him at least). Something I appreciate about The Bugs is how their control seem to be more... Neurological, direct influence on brain function. Because if it wasn't, Sonic likely would've been able to willpower his way out of it, but he *can't.* Good stuff!

Now imagine being Sonic, being told by a literal god that he can't be corrupted because he's "strong." Imagine being a teenager, in general, getting told that, and then later falling victim to a brain parasite. Something you can't overcome because of "strength." Something that is, as you said, neurological.
Imagine how much that could fuck someone up.
