colonel!caleb x architect!non-mc

Colonel!Caleb who you’ve known since you were in middle school. He was always ahead, always sought out and wanted, but he made you feel special when you first moved to that area.
Colonel!Caleb was your best friend even though you knew you weren’t his. You practiced together, studied, laughed, and even rehearsed how to reject romantic proposals from others. Which only came in handy for Caleb, but it never bothered you. Not that much.
Colonel!Caleb eventually became someone you barely spoke to, someone you barely knew as your highschool careers came to an end. You began to resent who he was as you poured yourself into your studies, and by the time graduation came you were two separate people.
Colonel!Caleb became a back burner thought that you only tampered with once he was brought up by close friends. You had buried his existence under years of work and studying that paid off once you became an architect at a firm in Linkon and eventually, Skyhaven.
Colonel!Caleb the man that should’ve been dead from what you were told, now sat in front of you. Eyes icy with his uniform crisp in a way you’d never seen from anyone else. It was him, of course it was, but you knew that he wasn’t the same.
Colonel!Caleb who seemed to watch you from afar as you worked with your colleagues on a new base plan. He had cornered you earlier, asking you hundreds of questions which you answered just as fast. He remembered you, even when you felt like he shouldn’t, and that bothered you even more.
Colonel!Caleb that after a few months of you working in Skyhaven started acting like you had never stopped being friends. Leaving you food you used to like, speaking to you in a casual manner no one else heard, and stopping by your temporary apartment.
Colonel!Caleb who you wished would just take a damn hint and leave you alone. You couldn’t work as proficiently anymore, not with his stupid face on your mind. You started avoiding him as much as you could even if it meant going to extremes.
Colonel!Caleb wouldn’t leave your mind. You tried everything from pouring yourself into your work to just blocking him out completly, yet nothing worked. He was still there like a song you couldn’t forget
Colonel!Caleb that was suddenly at your door. Uniform as crisp as ever, but a flicker of hesitation was clear on his face the longer you made him wait. You were thinking of leaving him there. Of retreating into your room and focusing on anything else, but that was before you heard his soft “please.” The one that shouldn’t have the same effect on you as it did in high school, but it does.
Colonel!Caleb who’s smirk grew bigger as he watched you bring him something to drink. You sat as far away from him as you could. Watching as he didn’t look at you until he was finished with his drink. His composure never wavering even while you took him in. Trying to figure out why he chose to come here and not anyone else.
Colonel!Caleb didn’t ask for your company, he made a simple statement that he expected you to follow. Something that he had described as a challenge to lure you into accepting. It was a sleazy move, but you couldn’t help but think of how long it had been since you put him in his place and left him there.
Colonel!Caleb only chuckled in response to your acceptance, as if mocking you for the eagerness you both shared. It was just a game, like the ones you’d play when you were younger, except that there was more at stake. More for you to use to your advantage now that you were older.

Random and vague drabble on the Caleb piece I’ve put on hold since I’m sick. Incredibly self-indulgent of me
