Not a Stagnant Night
@frcnked
Sirius wasn’t expecting much else to his night. He’d just locked up The Cake Walk and was headed back toward Muggle London where he’d parked his bike. He needed to have a conversation with Alex very badly. He and Zhenya had worked hard to keep the shop running in his absence, and Sirius couldn’t decide what hurt worst: that he hadn’t suspected and even kind of liked them or that there was no one to make baked goods. He’d done a day old sale and then a two day old sale to clear what was left of what they’d made before the wedding. The absolute shit show of a wedding.
He couldn’t in good conscience check with Alex while the man was in St. Mungo’s recovering, so Sirius had made do for now. He had up a big sign in their window, “Bakery closed, Bar still open.” It seemed to be doing the job, but he knew it would cut their donations a lot if a solution wasn’t found. Baking himself wasn’t a solution.
He heard a sound he would have recognized anywhere and looked up in surprise. He’d known James was taking things a little hard post-wedding, but Sirius certainly hadn’t expected him to start trotting down Diagon Alley as a stag.
“Prongs, you tosser,” he hissed as he briskly walked toward the stag standing there. “Someone will see.”
Unlike typical James behavior, the stag skittered away from Sirius. He opened his mouth to yell at it when he saw Frank standing on the other side of the street. “Oh, um, hi there,” he said, cringing at how suspicious he sounded. James would owe him so much for this.
“What do you think it-” Sirius had intended to provide an excuse, but he was cut off as the stag inexplicably opened its mouth.
And let out a jet of fire.
