We pride ourselves on innovative design. If you have an especially delicate, oversize, or non-traditional artwork, our designers can create ways to affix, hinge, mat, fit, and frame almost any work. In this time-lapse video, hinger Matthew Larson creates custom L-pins, designed to fix a delicate three-dimensional glass artwork to a substrate. Matt marks the brass pins in order to cut them to size to fit the design of this unique artwork envelope. Then, he uses a die to thread the pin (as it will later be screwed through the substrate), and covers the pin with polyolefin tubing, designed to shrink when heated. The polyolefin will act as a buffer between the brass pin and the artwork, so that there is no rubbing or scratching of the art. Next, Matt holds the pin carefully above a heat gun, causing the tubing to shrink around the pin. The excess polyolefin at the end of the pin is then trimmed to size. Matt created hundreds of these L-pins for a recent project. #hinging #lpins #artpreservation #mounting #customframing #framinghardware #artistsframes #substrate #nycframing #lic #preservationframing #timelapse #video #barkframeworks #customsolutions (at Bark Frameworks)
