okay im not 100% sure if i can verbalize this perfectly but i am having a ruminating thought
fractions bruce has this habit of having these moments of huge explosive anger and/or violence, that are often presented in the light of “justification,” that basically says ‘this is okay, because its for a good reason’
for example in the most recent issue, (10) we have him throwing an ipad at the wall at a WE meeting to ‘make a point’ (or something) about not doing military contracting.
there is also the issue were bruce is hitting a punching bag right next to damians face, which has already been discussed to hell and back.
i find this interesting, less in the way i think is mischaracterizes bruce & more in what is says about how fraction thinks about violence.
men are socialized into violence early on, and esp for good men they are told they should be protectors, etc. which in concept isn’t necessarily a bad value (as a neutral for any gender) but the way this often comes out in boys/men who are socialized in violence is promises of violence against those that harm who they’re supposed to protect. (usually daughters and sisters). they think this promise of violence provides safety, but instead it informs the capacity for violence. i.e. those women know that the men in their lives are capable of that, whenever they come across a ‘just cause’
this feels like how fraction is writing bruce & thinking about violence in terms of individual, civilian violence. if bruce is explosively angry and violent toward an WE employ trying get him to justify doing something immoral, it is justified. despite the fact that any outburst of violence like that would be an extremely startling action and a cause for concern to everyone in the room.
i don’t really have a point for this, i just made the connection while i was reading & was thinking about it. i should probably go back and reread the last 9 issues to see if there r more examples, but also it’s been a while & i haven’t reread anything yet lmao.
