hi i'm echo! (or.. 3ch0 if you want to get technical) im a female (she/her) comic book fan though i am mostly interested in batman atm. my fav characters are bruce wayne & selina kyle. i just think they're neat i know it's common for people to outline DNI's here, and while i will block any batcest shippers i come across, i otherwise just want anyone interacting with me to be respectful. thank you!

when perpetrators are female and hot (like poison ivy) the scenes and moments of SA are framed as if they are cool, hot, etc. there are scenes that are rapey, or directly are the result of explictly implied SA that there have been merch made out of with poison ivy, like the hush superman thing, or just statues of ivy coming on to bruce etc.

but the fandom is never going to turn on ivy because she's popular and has good visuals. that does not change the fact that she is an sexual assaillant. the first panel in her first appearance that she appears on is a sexual assault.

it's not just ivy. im peacefully reading greg rucka wonder woman & then theres a scene of cheetah coming on to wally, despite his protests (including a scene were he says "no no.") but it's framed as 'cool' in the end because he uses the kiss to take her superspeed powers from her.

and then of course there is a invincible fandom stuff going on. i don't know much about that show, but for me at this point its just further evidence of a pattern i already has seen.

for several reasons !!

firstly it takes away from bruce as a working class individual. one big thing with prime batman is that he will never be as connected to the people on the ground of gotham as his allies, (like selina, stephanie, etc.) who are living among the people of gotham. because of his place as a billionaire he is inherently disconnected from the people. this does not mean he does not have a connection with the people it just means its a different kind of one. this isnt inherently bad, but a big change in terms of identity and relationship with the city that i think absolute batman is trying to touch on it this sense of bruce being connected to his community. but alfred’s narration takes us out of this from the very first issue. alfred doesnt know or like the city, and his narration puts us at immediate distance from bruce as a character, when this is an adaptation that presumably should have brought the median reader closer to bruce & his experiences

the second thing is that alfred doesnt know bruce. we see them fighting or arguing more then we see them have a normal conversation. which is a very interesting change in terms of dynamics, and i’m not necessarily against it. however, the narration makes these huge observations about bruce as a person and a character that would imply a very intimate or close connection & we are seemed to supposed to take face value. but they’re coming from… alfred? who knows nothing about bruce as a person. (which is not to say that alfred can’t make observations about bruce as an outside perspective, but there are times he makes observations that would need a very close personal connection to assert them as comfortably as alfred does)
