Okay. So you know how back in 2023 I decided to start phasing out Vulture Culture art so I could focus on new and different career aspirations because those new aspirations were actually showing real growth and future potential? Enough that I actually left the coast and moved back to Portland so I could better leverage said opportunities?
Well, while 2024 was AWESOME, the economic downturn of 2025 basically axed a lot of those new opportunities, up to and including venues I was working with going completely out of business. Not everything folded, mind you, but it was enough to take out a few really significant financial pillars of my newer endeavors. I tightened the belt and made the most of what I still had this past year, but things are still not looking great, especially as winter is the slowest time for me.
So I'm having to do what a lot of other people do and fall back on what I did before, at least temporarily. So to that end I've uploaded my first batch of fox and coyote tails since (IIRC) August of 2023 here on my Etsy shop. I don't know how many more I'll end up listing in the future; I have some really good new career prospects lined up for this spring and summer. So this may be a really temporary opportunity for folks who want my work.
It was nice to spend some time in old rhythms, admittedly; I find hand sewing to be meditative, apart from the spiritual end of things. I've been occasionally making small hide and bone projects here and there with supplies I had always held onto with ideas attached to them, and I still have some of those stashed away that I'll make sometime in the future. But I don't want to go back to this as my full time work, so once my new efforts are more sustainable again I'll go back to mostly retired from Vulture Culture art.
