I think what bothers me the most about the Ilvermorny houses is that they’re just lazy.
“A bunch of settlers decided to name houses after their favorite magical creatures that they found just north of Plymouth. Oh, there definitely weren’t any native schools, and even though our founder hasn’t found any American magic folks I’m gonna tell you they don’t call ‘em Muggles on that side of the pond, they call them No-Maj because WHY NOT.”
It all feels lazy and underwhelming.
The lore people created behind Wolfthorn, Hawkridge, Foxcrest, and Bearglove is both more engaging and more encompassing of America and just, JK. Stop. Please. We just... Please, stop.
