On September 11, 2001, I was a TV news reporter at @fox10phoenix. • Around 6:30am I was sound asleep when the phone rang. It was my assignment manager asking, "How soon can you be in?" "Not very soon," I now regret saying. I had worked the night shift the day before and I was grumpy to be awoken so early. "Okay, gotta go." He hung up but my brain was already fully awake. • A few minutes later the phone rang again. "Someone must have called in sick and they are desperate," I thought. It wasn't the station but my sister, @beckytrekkie, the US Army Veteran and night owl. I knew it must be bad for her to be calling from Chicago at this hour. "Turn on your TV," she said. • The rest was a blur. Nonstop coverage for days and days. Finding and interviewing victim's family members, covering hate murders in the wake of the attacks, so many memorials, so many tears. Seeing the best of humanity in response to the worst inhumanity we had ever seen. • I imagine anyone who was alive that day will forever remember the events of 9/11. May we never forget how far we've come, or lose sight of how far we still need to go. We are better together. ❤ • • • • #neverforget #911 #wtc #september11 #fox10phoenix #rosalindaroman https://www.instagram.com/p/CFASWteAUjg/?igshid=99qs1tulgpir
