The Best Alternatives to Foundation - Tinted Creams and Skin Tints

Whilst tinted moisturisers can be a great alternative to foundation, theyāre often thick, greasy, prone to oxidization, take more work to apply and blend than regular foundation, have poor staying power, and an even worse shade range. Whilst there are some great tinted moisturisers (BareMinerals Complexion Rescue Tinted Recovery Gel for example) theyāre not necessarily the only option when searching for an alternative to foundation.
This is not a generic list of tinted moisturiser recommendations, but rather a list of skin pick me ups. Moisturisers, creams, primers, and other products that nourish, give a naturally gorgeous glow and the illusion of an even skintone.

How important do you think it is to have a publication whilst in medical school? A few of my peers seem to have already done this and it makes me feel a bit anxious. I know it's only max 2 fpas points, and I'd rather concentrate on the actual mbbs course but seeing other people getting published makes me worry that I should be doing that too. I'd love to know your thoughts on the matter x
Hello! Thatās a difficult question to answer, in some respects. Having publications is never a bad thing, however it can be difficult to find the opportunities. And also, getting things in print takes time. So even if you submit something, until itās accepted for publication, you canāt put it down on a form or get points for it. Which means youād have to work on it for quite a while before applications, if you wanted to be sure. When I was applying, most people didnāt have publications, so in reality itās a small minority of people who will be getting those two points. The thing is, itās all relative. If you want to get an academic training job in London involving Very Select specialties and want to have the best application so you can pick particular hospitals, then yeah every little helps. Some people at my med school got Very Very Tetchy about how badly they wanted this 1 job in this 1 hospital for specialty X, and their life revolved around it, and they became raging gunners, and thatās their choice. Meanwhile I had a previous degree, did well in SJT, but was⦠not far off average in the rankings and acacemic points department, and I still got training where I wanted. Iām not saying that people shouldnāt aspire to do the best they can, but that a lot depends on how set you are on something, and how realistic that goal is. I just wanted to be in or around London, and the specialties I wanted to try werenāt particulary competitive, so for me, doing reasonably well (but not exceptionally) was good enough. If someone wanted to gun for a competitive job in a competitive place, then those extra couple of points might mean much more. But really, you get many, many more points through things like your ranking, or most especially your SJT, so artguably the biggest factors in success is A) doing OK throughout your degree so youāre not bottom of your year, and B) getting to know the SJT quite well, so you donāt fall down on the things that get you the most marks. Itās up to you; thereās nothing to stop you from aiming at some publications; but do remember that your ranking and SJT are worth far more.Ā
Flat top kabuki brushes are my favourite style of brush for applying foundation, they are quick and easy to use and give a smooth, uniform coverage to the skin. They blend product well and help to give a seamless, perfected finish.
Flat Paddle Foundation Brush
Flat, paddle foundation brushes are one of the most common and well-known brushes for applying foundation, they are generally used in a āpaintingā motion and are good for building up coverage.
Beauty Blender
Beauty blenders are a very popular tool and method used for foundation, although not my personal preference I can see why some love it. A beauty blender is best for slowly building up coverage and when used with high and full coverage foundations. Beauty blenders are usually ābouncedā on the skin to build up coverage, they can be time-consuming, but if you have the patience they can create an airbrushed finish to the skin.
Fingers
People often discount fingers as a suitable tool for applying foundation, but theyāre one of my favourites. For starters there is less wastage of product, you can really work the foundation into the skin or you can simply ātapā for a gorgeous full coverage. I love using fingers to create a variety of different variations of coverage, plus the warmth of your skin helps to warm up the product and look more natural. As long as your fingers are clean and dry, you shouldnāt encounter too many problems.

Oxygenetix Oxygenating Foundation and Acne Control Foundation are the first of their kind. Making headway as a medical cosmetic, Oxygenetix products are safe to use on even the most sensitive and post-procedure skin. Oxygenetix Foundations are dynamic, offering various finishes and results. Depending on the tool you use and the application technique, there is a way to get any look you desire, and we are here to help. Continue reading to learn the top tips for applying your Oxygenetix foundation.
Before Foundation Application
Prime the face by cleansing with a gentle cleanser to remove any unwanted bacteria or debris. Once the skin has dried, apply your Oxygenetix Hydro Matrix all over the face with your fingers or a soft brush. Applying this pro-healing moisturizer to the skin provides the perfect palette for Oxygenetix Foundations.Ā
Finger Application
Applying foundation with your fingers is a great way to control the coverage. Begin by dispensing the desired amount of Oxygenetix on top of your hand. Your hand is now a paint palette for foundation and is the perfect place to blend two colors together to achieve a color match if needed. We recommend using your ring finger to apply, as it naturally acts more gently than the pointer or middle finger. To get an even amount of pigment on your ring finger, swipe back and forth onĀ the foundation until a sheer like amount is achieved. Use a tapping or dabbing motion to achieve best camouflaging results. Do not lather or apply thick layers. If more coverage is desired wait 60 seconds and repeat the process. Oxygenetix can be layered to gain desired coverage without diminishing breathability.Ā
Sponge Application
A sponge is a perfect tool to use if you have sensitive skin following an aggressive treatment. Those with acne or rosacea can also benefit from using a sponge, as they can be washed of bacteria or thrown away as disposables. Be sure to use a sterile sponge or a new one, latex-free preferably. Run your sponge under water before applying foundation to avoid soaking a lot of product into the sponge. Place the desired amount of Oxygenetix on top of your hand and swipe the sponge back and forth to get an even amount of pigment. Use tapping or dabbing motions to apply to the skin for full coverage. When you are finished clean your sponge or throw away disposables.
Brush Application
For a smooth, even flawless finish, use a foundation brush. Makeup brushes are sometimes too harsh on a patientās sensitive skin following a procedure, so always use what is best for your situation. First, dispense the desired amount of Oxygenetix Foundation on top of your hand. Take a clean finger and dab dots of product on theĀ face such as the cheeks, nose, forehead, and chin. Using the foundation brush, gently blend the pigment over areas of the face.Ā
Enjoy your breathable foundation and let us know what worked for you!Ā

Hi there! Sorry to be a bother, but Iām a bit confused about the foundation application process. I read that you apply for eligibility soon but my med school hasnāt mentioned anything about it? Is that something everyone has to do?
Not a bother at all! I actually donāt remember applying for eligibility at all. I think that my med school did this for me, but I donāt know if itās just some sort of gap in my memory. The applicants guide seems to imply that if your university applies for you, then you donāt need to apply. (Iām not getting it to load right now, so I donāt know if the link will work for you, or if they are revamping it for next year) I had to refer to archived pages.Ā
So it might really only refer to people applying from outside of the UK who are applying for themselves. That said, if thereās any doubt, you can always send your head of year a quick email to find out. Your uni absolutely should be keeping you abreast of any Big Dates for Final Year because there are a lot of them to keep an eye on, so Iād be really surprised if they left something major out. But ask someone at university who would know, because thatās the best way to be sure and have peace of mind.Good luck :)
