#1854: the Bolen culture was one of the first Early Archaic cultures in Northern Florida - an archaeological era roughly matching up to the Early Holocene in geology terms, i think. the Clovis culture, on the other hand, was a Palaeo-Indian culture (coming before the Early Archaic). of course, there was a smooth transition between the two, but over a couple thousand years, a lot did change; climate change and sea levels among those, as mentioned at the beginning of the month.
another such change was a population boom. in Northern Florida, we've found 2.2 times as many Bolen points as Palaeoindian points - but because the Bolen culture was a bit more specific, so they interpret this as "almost four times as many points produced per thousand years". thus, either they had a lot more knappers with time on their hands, or a lot more people.
