Thanks to all who came out on the 8th for the fundraiser show. It seem like people are more excited that ever for this year's fest! What is Forward Ohio? Forward Ohio is a yearly traveling punk music festival. Along with offering all ages music, workshops and zine/book distros, Forward Ohio raises money for local charities in each host city. Where/when is Forward Ohio taking place? Once again we will raffle off various fun items to raise money and personal items that will be be donated to local homeless shelters and food pantries. Raffle tickets will be a dollar each, ten tickets for five dollars, or twenty tickets for ten dollars. Tickets will also be given in exchange for new, unopened personal items such as; baby diapers, toothbrushes and toothpaste, soap, shampoo, shaving cream and razors, and unopened sheets, pillow cases, and blankets. I will post a detailed list of urgently needed items as we get closer to spring. We will also be looking for items to raffle off as incentives to donate. Let's have some fun with this! As in previous years, we will hold various fund-raising activities and shows to raise loot before the fest. This will keep the door cost low for the kids, while ensuring compensation for all out of town artists. Keep an eye out! Most importantly, tell your friends! How is money raised for Forward Ohio utilized? Funds raised will help pay for the cost of reserving the show spaces, gas money for the traveling bands and food for everyone. Fundraising also helps keep the cover charge low for those who plan on attending. Money will also be raised before and during the fest that will benefit Ohio Charities. Seven years ago, The Action Committee created "For Real Fest" in Athens and to this day, the punk-infused benefit festival still exists, just in a different form.
"There are so many fests that happen in Athens," said Max Wheeler, Forward Ohio event planner. "A lot of [those fests] were really negative [and] a burden for the town."
Rax Housko, the main founder of For Real Fest, decided to create a fest that centered around positivity and punk music. The fest grew bigger each year and it was not until two years ago that the fest graduated to a full-blown event. "We didn't want [For Real Fest] to get bigger, we just wanted it to gain momentum," said Wheeler.

NOTE: The main founder of For Real Fest whom Max Wheeler was referring to was Ray Houska, not Rax Housko, although Rax Housko has pretty decent roast beef and curly fries.
