Head of Security ⟼ Hello. Your 48 hour mandatory quarantine is now over. Before letting you into the populace I need you to answer a few questions. Please state your full name, and date of birth.
“Hey…” He forced a smile, simply trying to appease the statuesque man. “Jackson Castillo, but I go by JC, and um… Why do you need my birthday?” Letting out a sigh, he shook his head and answered. “December seventh, nineteen-ninety-three…”
Head of Security ⟼ Thank you. In the last 48 hours have you experienced Infected like symptoms?
Looking down at the hazmat suit on his body, and the helmet in his hand, he chuckled softly before putting his stone face back on. “...No. I’m pretty sure I haven’t…”
Head of Security ⟼ Are there any ailments, disabilities, mental illnesses, or medical conditions that we should be made aware of?
“Not that I can think of. I mean, I’ve been underground for the past five years, so I’m not sure if that’d…. Cause anything? Stir-crazy, maybe?” He suggested, scratching his chin in thought before finally shrugging and moving on to the next question.
Head of Security⟼ Can you give us a little background on yourself. Your family life, work ethic. What kind of person are you?
“What family life? My parents died at the beginning of all this. They were the first infected I saw. They were doomsday preppers and they had a doomsday shelter in the backyard, so… When this all started, I went to get in it with them, and my dad had already turned and gotten at my mom…” Closing his eyes, he took a deep breath and continued. ”She wasn’t dead yet, but, she was clearly not gonna make it... I ran in there myself and locked myself in. That’s where I’ve been since this started. When I ran out of food, I climbed out, put on this hazmat suit, ran into another survivor, and we made our way over here together.”
Head of Security ⟼ Can you list for us 3 skills that you are proficient in?
“Free climbing, I’m a pretty fast runner, and I’m good at building, and construction work.”
Head of Security⟼ Excellent. Now, three skills that you are not proficient in.
“Pretty much everything else. Not good at killing, scouting, and… farming? I guess?”
Head of Security ⟼ Last question. If you had to, would you be able to kill someone you knew if they became infected?
“Um… Someone I knew?... I haven’t even killed one of those… But uh… Yeah. Yeah, I could.” He lied through his teeth, hoping the security officer wouldn’t pick up on it.
Head of Security⟼ Thank you. And welcome to Fortuna.

“Hello. Your 48 hour mandatory quarantine is now over. Before letting you into the populace I need you to answer a few questions. Please state your full name, date of birth?”
It was then that Kieren realized he was about to be around people again. A feeling that was both relieving and dreadful. “I eh—... my full name? Kieren Christoph Parker, April 14th 1999.”
“Thank you. In the last 48 hours have you experienced Infected like symptoms?”
He stared a moment, briefly wondering if they were serious. The unwavering expression on their face confirmed that, yes, they were. Still, his mouth got ahead of him. “If that was quarantine, shouldn’t you guys have been looking for that?” His sarcastic reply triggered only a quirked brow from his interviewer. “I mean, I feel fine. Or at least as fine as a person can these days.”
“Are there any ailments, disabilities, mental illnesses, or medical conditions that we should be made aware of?”
Where did one begin? Sure there was nothing diagnosed by a professional, nothing a doctor would advise you medicate Is ‘wishing I were dead’ something they should know? Most likely not. “Not at all. I’m fit as a fucking fiddle.”
“Can you give us a little background on yourself. Your family life, work ethic. What kind of person are you?”
Family? “What family?” Kieren vocalized his thoughts. “I barely had one even before all this.” He knew what they meant, they wanted to know about his parents, siblings, that kind of thing. “My dad was a rich prick, my mom was basically a mindless drone content to stand beside him. They didn’t make it past the first riots in the city. The rich were the first to get eaten, but not by the infected.” The memories of seeing the mansion he’d grown up in collapsing in flames crossed his mind. Kieren had dreamed for so many years about being the one to start the fire, but in the end, all it took was a single Molotov and a group of looters to bring down the Parker mansion.
“I had an older brother. We were close as kids, but things changed when he started high school and became a mega jack ass. We didn’t speak much after that. He moved to Chicago and became CEO of some big business magazine. He’d call every so often to make sure I hadn’t offed myself, check in on his niece, but beyond that, nothing. I don’t know what happened to him, my best guess is he’s dead like the rest of them.” Little emotion touched his voice as he spoke of his family’s demise. “I didn’t have much in terms of blood family. So I made my own. I had a best friend named Gus, he was more a brother to me than my real one. I was engaged to a girl, Anna. I’d known her since we were kids. We had a daughter, Edith. They’re gone now, so there’s no real point in getting into that, is there?” He said, giving a tight smile to mask the fact that he was a step away from coming apart. He prayed they wouldn’t press him for more information. Just saying each of their names aloud was hard enough.
“As for me, before all this, I wanted to write. I was always writing. As a kid it was just stories, but then it branched into songs, composing music, all that. I’d written for the school paper, and I was a year into my degree when the outbreak happened. I was working as a bartender on the side, picking up any job that would pay the bills, really. That was the one that helped the most though.” He left it at that, not wanting to ramble on. Still, they sat there waiting for him to continue. “You really wanna know what kind of person I am? I’m a loner, I keep to myself. People are usually put off by my appearance, I’ve been told I look ‘dark and mysterious’ though apparently not in a good way.” He explained, adding air-quotes around his descriptors. “I look out for my own, but I guess I don’t really have the best track record for keeping them alive.” Not that he really could’ve saved any of them. Anna died in childbirth, Gus was bitten, and Edith was sick and starving. Still, Kieren would blame himself forever. “I’ve never fit it, and I didn’t care to. All I know is it’s getting harder and harder to make it alone out there.”
“Can you list three skills that you are proficient in?”
“I’m gonna assume you’re looking for shit that’s actually gonna get you somewhere in the new world. Nothing like ‘I’m a real people person.’— I’m not, for the record.” Again, his humor was met with radio silence. Figuring that was a good one to end on, Kieren continued more seriously. “I’m a hell of a shot. Guns or bows, it doesn’t matter. I’d say I’m pretty good at rationing, too. I was holed up in a small town for about a year with my daughter, it didn’t have much, but what I did find, I managed to make last. Y’know, until there was just nothing left. I guess the third one would be I’ve gotten pretty good at tracking. When the food runs out, you gotta do something. You hunt. Though, I can track more than just animals.”
“Excellent. Now, three skills that you are not proficient in.”
“I don’t know the first thing about building. So, you’re shit out of luck if you were thinking of putting me in construction. My buildings would be a pile of sticks. The same goes for first-aid. My bedside manner could definitely use some work. I’m not good at just staying in one place, so it’d be a waste to keep me stationary.”
“Alright, and last question. If you had to, would you be able to kill someone you knew if they became infected?”
A lump rose in his throat. Exhaling shakily, Kieren replied. “Yes. I speak from experience.” Broken images of his best friend, of Gus pulling back the collar of his jacket to reveal a single bite. Of him pushing it off as long as he could, trying to hold onto to his sanity, his life, for just a little longer. “It’s different when it’s someone you know, though. It seems like it happens so fast with strangers, but when it’s your own... it feels like forever watching them slip away. In his defense, he held out longer than most. He’d always been the stronger one, but in the end I did it for him.”
“Hello. Your 48 hour mandatory quarantine is now over. Before letting you into the populace I need you to answer a few questions. Please state your full name, date of birth?” ‘’My name is Gabriel Garcia, I was born on the fifteenth of December, nineteen-ninety.’’
“Thank you. In the last 48 hours have you experienced Infected like symptoms?” ‘’No, sir.’’
“Are there any ailments, disabilities, mental illnesses, or medical conditions that we should be made aware of?” ‘’No, sir.’’
“Can you give us a little background on yourself. Your family life, work ethic. What kind of person are you?” [silence] ‘’Is this really necessary?’’ [shifts uncomfortably] ‘’We all had a family once. All of mine are gone, except my sister. I haven’t heard from her in five years.’’ [long silence] ‘’I’m Mexican, [chuckles] put me to work doing anything and I’ll get it done for you with time to spare.’’
“Can you list three skills that you are proficient in?” ‘’I’d list motors, I can get anything to run again, but I expect you don’t have a lot of those still laying about. I run, fast. I can defend myself, I can teach that too. And I’m a quick thinker.’’
“Excellent. Now, three skills that you are not proficient in.” ‘’Swimming, not that there’s a lot of that going around.’’ [pauses] ‘’This isn’t going to be public knowledge, right? I’m not good with heights. I don’t work too great in teams, I prefer to get things done by myself.’’
“Alright, and last question. If you had to, would you be able to kill someone you knew if they became infected?” [long silence] ‘’Yes.’’ [another silence] ‘’I’ve done it before, I can do it again.’’
“Thank you, and welcome to Fortuna!” ‘’Thank you.’’

Head of Security ⟼ Hello. Your 48 hour mandatory quarantine is now over. Before letting you into the populace I need you to answer a few questions. Please state your full name, and date of birth.
Clearing his throat, Magnus took a seat in the chair, a kind smile on his face. “Magnus Ölander.” Licking his lips for a moment as he thought about whether the truth was really important for them to know. “October twenty-ninth, nineteen-ninety.”
Head of Security ⟼ Thank you. In the last 48 hours have you experienced Infected like symptoms?
A light chuckle fell from Magnus’ lips, his head shaking in response. “Has anyone ever honestly answered yes? If I was experiencing infected-like symptoms, why would I tell you?” He then let out a sigh of relief as he got comfortable in his seat, folding his arms across his chest, his eyebrows raising a little. “Besides, aren’t you planning to strip me and check for any signs of infection anyways?”
Head of Security ⟼ Are there any ailments, disabilities, mental illnesses, or medical conditions that we should be made aware of?
“No.”
Head of Security⟼ Can you give us a little background on yourself. Your family life, work ethic. What kind of person are you?
“My family was from Sweden. I’m a hard worker and I do not stop until the job is done, and done to perfection. I don’t waste time accomplishing a task, and when I have my sights set on a goal, it’s hard to change my course.” Magnus answered with a slight shrug. “As for what kind of person I am… That’s a very vague question, sir, and to be honest, I’m not sure I know how to properly answer. -- After all, we as humans, do have a tenancy to be biased towards ourselves.”
Head of Security ⟼ Can you list for us 3 skills that you are proficient in?
“Are my answers going to be have to be proven in some sort of test, or are you just trusting the word of those that enter your gates, despite having never met them before?” The man questioned in return, his lips curling up into a cock smile. “I’m capable of doing anything and everything. There isn’t a single task you could assign me to, that I couldn’t figure out.” He answered, straightening his suit jacket. “Just put me wherever you need hands.”
Head of Security⟼ Excellent. Now, three skills that you are not proficient in.
“Did you hear what I said a moment ago?” Magnus questioned, his tone still calm and soft.
Head of Security ⟼ Last question. If you had to, would you be able to kill someone you knew if they became infected?
“Of course. It’d be the easiest thing I’ve done since the world went to shit. The moment you are infected, whether that be from the spores, or a bite… You’re no longer human in my eyes. The moment you slip up, you put the entire compound at risk… And I’m not a fan of unnecessary risks.”
Head of Security⟼ Thank you. And welcome to Fortuna.

“Hello. Your 48 hour mandatory quarantine is now over. Before letting you into the populace I need you to answer a few questions. Please state your full name, date of birth?”
" veronica jada segovia. -- people used to call me vero. “ it was an after thought as she tried to loosen up around the stranger she even tried her best to offer a small smile, “ june thirteenth nineteen ninety two. “
“Thank you. In the last 48 hours have you experienced Infected like symptoms?”
she shook her head in response, “ no. “ it was so formal and reminded her so much of an interview, the thought left her to squirm in her seat.
“Are there any ailments, disabilities, mental illnesses, or medical conditions that we should be made aware of?”
this world was depressing everyone’s been through something if anyone were to say they were perfectly alright they were lying, “ no. “ it was just a meek little answer, a far cry from the way she had been five years ago.
“Can you give us a little background on yourself. Your family life, work ethic. What kind of person are you?”
“ i never knew my mom. my dad was a cook -- how much of my family history do you need? “ it was clear she was getting agitated, her fingers dug into the palms of her hands. “ i had worked in a restaurant up until school called for almost all of my attention. they never complained about my work ethic. i’m a hard worker and maybe just a little bit of a perfectionist. “
“Can you list three skills that you are proficient in?”
“ i can cook. and no one ever got sick from eating what i’d set on the table. “ she said with another smile, “ i know how to set broken bones and other typical medical things. i know how to sew. my aunt made sure i didn’t miss out on what she called la experiencia de la madre -- the mother experience. “
“Excellent. Now, three skills that you are not proficient in.”
“ i’m not all that good and fixing things -- or building things. i can’t work under extreme amounts of pressure. and i don’t know when to stop and ask for help -- my dad said that’s something i got from my mother. “
“Alright, and last question. If you had to, would you be able to kill someone you knew if they became infected?”
“ -- yes. “ there was only a moment of hesitation.
“Thank you, and welcome to Fortuna!”
all she did was smile and give a slight nod of her head.
Grace likes to believe she has a very sophisticated room and style. Her bedroom is made up of beige, cream and a light grey colour. She has an extravagant chandelier hanging over her bed, and cushioned walls either side. On a small cabinet on the right side of her bed, she keeps an ornamental set of shells that her mother gave her, as well as pictures of her family and friends. Her walk in wardrobe is painted a white colour to match her bedroom, as well as her bathroom. Her makeup table is silver, and is where she keeps her most expensive makeup, jewellery, and other items of value. Around her room, there are floral and brass decorations, and everything is completely spotless.
