The Countess of Wessex, 56, arrived alongside her husband Prince Edward, 57, as the couple visited their Scottish earldom, Forfar.
Kinnettles Castle
Kinnettles Castle is located in the county of Forfar in Angus, Scotland. The property has had numerous owners throughout its history. In 1678, there was a two-story house built on the property, and in 1802 the Harvey Mansion was constructed on the land. In 1864, new owner James Peterson demolished the previous buildings and built the Scottish baronial castle to serve as a statement of his wealth. The only surviving building from the original estate is a farmhouse that was converted into a gardener’s house. Further changes and upgrades were made to the castle in 1914 and the estate was eventually sold to the Walker-Munro family in the 1960s. In 2011, Clarenco LLP purchased the estate and the castle was converted into a boutique hotel with nine bedrooms, while the old Gate Lodge was converted into a two-bedroom cottage. The castle sits on 44 acres and boasts soaring turrets, towers, and balconies. The interior includes a reception room, a sweeping staircase, a lounge bar, a dining room with a banqueting table, a secret wine cellar, a billiard room, a game room, and accommodations to sleep up to 39 guests. The castle serves as an exclusive wedding venue and is available for corporate events and various celebrations. Kinnettles Castle has award-winning catering and refurbished interiors.
