There are reports of IT outages affecting major institutions in Australia and internationally.
News is still coming up but this is a good time to point out that cashless societies are a bad idea actually and that we rely too much on USA tech to power our country
Both of those things are Very Bad.
Cash is super important my dude but more importantly is a system that doesn't go down when other countries fail to maintain their tech. Look, I hear you, Microsoft doesn't go down very often and we should be thankful for that, but it's not just microsoft. What if the states of america falls into dystopia and idk Hunger Games themselves, where will we be? So much of our country relys on other counties, and while thats a good thing, too high a percentage relys on just one country. We need to balance it all out.
This outage, at this point, is totally out of our control. We cannot do anything, not was there anything we could have done, but we are lead blindly hoping this one country will do the right thing and maintain their shit and when they dont we get to face their consequences. This is also a country famous for Not Doing The Right Thing and that reputation alone makes me want to seperate myself (and this country) even more
We should have our own tech, "made by locals for locals" that can't be corrupted by outsider influence because it doesn't exist outside of Australia. If an attack happens on our tech then we'll know it was from inside.
Idk maybe this is getting extreme but this foreign State of America tech infiltrating our every day has always set me on edge. The fact that I don't have options to avoid it, to not sign terms and conditions of use on their products, that there is no home made alternative, it just feels insane.
