Honestly, it’s great angst potential if you wanna go there, Anon, because when something bad happens, there always is a what if, even if it’s brief.

Or there’s that adult that steps in and goes, no, you’re not doing this by yourself. I know you won’t stop, so I’m not going to forbid you, but I am going to help you, whether you like it or not. Or, well, sometimes it might be more of a here, kid, do me proud while you follow in my footsteps, and remember to duck. You’ll know the signal when you see it. No one’s allowed to get themselves killed on my watch.

Or maybe it’s that explosion of anger, or chafing against needless restrictions because they’ve done much more dangerous stuff before (a favourite of mine if I read Narnia fic set back in this world), because they are doing so much are capable of doing so much more, and no one recognizes that.
