…what I’m reading (books): I just finished listening to the Discworld book A Thief of Time. I also just read The Everlasting by Alix E. Harrow on @twelvemonkeyswere's rec, and it was EXCELLENT. It's a gender-bendy knight-and-academic love story but with a twisty out-of-time element and it was a very enjoyable read! I'm also working on Charmed Life by Diana Wynne Jones, the first book in the Chronicles of Chrestomanci, for the podcast readalong thing @pepperf and I are doing. Also beta-reading a book for an author friend, which is always fun!

…what I’m reading (fic): Not really currently reading any fic, unless the beta-reading I'm doing for @pressdbtwnpages and @catty-words for fandoms I don't really consider myself part of counts. And I am dipping into whatever Penelope/Colin @missparker writes, when she writes it, though I'm not reading any other fic about them.

…what I’m listening to: Thank you Corissa for making me listen to Olivia Rodrigo's You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love, which really is excellent! Other than that I'm just listening to my massive 'all the songs I like' playlist, as usual. When Sara Bareilles releases her new album in August, I'll be listening to that!

…what I’m watching: Troy and I just watched Mare of Easttown, years after everyone else. We started it when it first came out and it wasn't clicking for us. But then we watched the Mark Ruffalo show Task by the same creator and loved it, so we gave Mare another shot, and we're glad we did; it was very good. We're also watching the last season of Miracle Workers, in between re/watching The Good Place with our kids (first watch for E, rewatch for the rest of us). I'm watching Elementary with the group chat. And we just rewatched The Residence again with friends @jenndoesnotcare and @caelyx with their kids when they were here visiting us last week, which was delightful!

…what I’m eating: I'm excited to eat the fried rice I'm gonna make later tonight with all the odds and ends we're trying to use up before we go on a trip to visit family later this week!

…what I’m working on: Just learned a cool crochet technique from Jenn when she was here, so I'm making a potholder with that! I need to get back to crocheting a couple of overdue gifts. And I'm plotting a fun 50-gift thing for my brother's 50th next month, where we do pass-the-parcel and wrap one gift per layer, but make him open the whole thing, mwahahaha. Most of those gifts will be tiny--candy, stickers, toy dinosaurs, etc.--but with a few bigger gifts here and there.

…what I’m doing to touch grass: watering the herbs and flowers on our back deck, taking an evening walk around our neighborhood (which is full of tall old trees), going on the occasional hike, watching for birds (including hummingbirds) at our birdfeeders.

…what’s making me laugh: My cats, often. My kids, who are hilarious. The Good Place.

…what’s giving me hope: My kids. My nieces and nephews. My friends. The Good Place. The fact that there are people all over the world working to make it a better place, despite what people in power want or don't want.

Anyone have any newer shows they've been loving? I haven't been watching anything but Taskmaster and need something else. Ideally these would be available (in the US) on Hulu, Disney+, Prime, Netflix, HBO Max, or Peacock since that's what I have access to.
