Whoops, It’s a little long. I’ve been thinking about this AU practically nonstop for years without anyone to rant to, so I may have said a bit much.

I was doodling one day, and a drew purple guy as a puddle. I thought it was funny enough to base an entire AU off of. The first iteration of the AU was not in any way serious, William was purple because he was made of grape juice (after an accident with a juice machine). Also, Elizabeth was his niece, Dave’s daughter, for some reason? I don’t remember why.

Eventually It became a swap AU with no one being made of fruit juice. It focusing on Charlie, who swapped with Gregory. Most of it was scrapped with the most major exception being Charlie as the protagonist. It also affected Micheal’s personality, he’s more evil than he was before (You can’t tell yet, but he changes a lot post-1983)

After giving up on that idea, I tried starting an original webcomic with an antagonist that was made of black goo. His evil henchmen and mind control puppet was very Charlie-like. I made 6 pages before getting bored and once again scrapping it.

Finally, I went back to idea of William being made of some kind of purple goo. It kind of went full circle with my first idea, being comedic and absurd. I decided the substance was some form of agony, which was a blanket term for all emotional power. I renamed it ichor, then renamed it soulstuff. I stuck with this AU when I started the comic because I had a hard time drawing certain characters in certain styles. I could draw William and Charlie as changelings just fine, but I couldn’t draw them human. It was just easier to draw each character in whatever way I liked best. I wish I could say this isn’t the reason I still do this, but I still can’t imagine or draw Charlie as a human. She was never meant to be human, I think.

Weirdly enough, all tomorrows was an inspiration for sprites too. It made me interested in speculative biology and figuring out how sprites would actually operate and differ from humans. I generally was inspired by DnD slimes, the blue thing from Monsters vs. Aliens, and amoebas/single-celled organisms when creating them. During biology class , I spent the entire period each day trying to link whatever the topic was to sprites. Sprites aren’t fully biologically accurate, they’re about 60% sci-fi contrivance, but I put significant thought into it. It helped me remember the content more, at least.

For the plot and dialogue I mostly took inspiration from YouTube comic dubs, specifically ones dubbed by VOadam and Sans comic TV. From about 2017 to the pandemic, little me was obsessed with Steven Universe, Cuphead, and Undertale AUs. I wanted the capture the vibes those comics had within a comic I made. Blueycapsules also contributed to me wanting to write a FNaF comic.

Yo-Kai watch Inspired the way ghosts work and the whole system of afterlife. Not to spoil too much, but Susie’s dog and Elizabeth’s future cat end up being important characters, and are very much Yo-Kai Watch-inspired. Items that contain soulstuff through extensive use or being exposed to intense emotions, such as Henry’s hat, are called enspirited items because of the anime.

Some events and Characters are based off of things I experienced and people I know, loosely. The Afton siblings, Henry, and Charlie have the most influences from people in my personal life. I have had some unfortunate things happen to me, obviously not even close to as bad as what happens to the characters, but those experiences still affect how I go about writing the darker chapters. Charlie and Elizabeth are almost self-inserts of me as a child/pre-teen.

I could go on and on about every character and media I’m about to mention that inspired the AU or a character from it, but I’m just going to list them for the sake of not making this tens of pages long. No specific order.

I’ve been thinking about what would happen if C.C. Survived the bite. He’d probably have a lot of health problems. Here’s Cassidy being worried, and Elizabeth being a dope, about it.
