Elég nagy "Braun fanboy", pár hete vett egy KF21-es Braun kávéfőzőt, csak úgy, amúgy nem kávézik. Kedvenc budapesti pillanata, amikor egy pillanatra fogalma sincs, hogy éppen hol van. Kedvence a Nürnberger bratwurst párolt káposztán. Ha tehetné, visszautazna 1983-ba, és elmenne Italo discóra hullámozni Riminibe.

He is a huge ‘Braun Fanboy’, he bought a KF21 Braun coffee machine a few weeks ago even though he doesn’t drink coffee. His favorite Budapest moment is when he is absolutely no idea where he is. His favorite dish is the Nürnberger bratwurst on steamed cabbage. If he could, he would travel back to 1983 and he would go dancing to Italo disco in Rimini.

Milyen típusú emlékek inspirálnak jobban: a jók vagy a rosszak?/What kind of memories inspire you the most: good or bad ones? Inspirálni inkább a jók, a rosszakból pedig próbálok tanulni.

I am inspired by the good ones, and I’m trying to learn from the bad ones.

Ha újjászülethetnél egy ma élő vagy már halott művész személyében, kit választanál?/If you could reincarnate as a living or dead artist, who would you choose to be? Massimo Vignelli, de soha nem mérném magamat hozzá. Mindenesetre kevés designer van a világon, aki elégedettebb lehetett az életútjával, mint szakember és mint magánember egyaránt.

Massimo Vignelli, but I would never compare myself to him. However, I think there are not many designers who can be as satisfied with both their professional and private life.

Hogyan lendülsz túl az időszakos alkotói válságon?/How do you overcome a temporary artistic crisis? Olyan dolgokat csinálok, aminek semmi köze a munkámhoz.

I do things that have absolutely no relation to my work.

Kinek mutatod meg először a legújabb munkádat?/Who sees your newest works first? Laufer Ferinek, az alapítótársamnak. Nagyon jó szerkesztői vagyunk egymásnak, mindig azok a legjobb terveink, amiket az egyikünk kitalál, a másik meg kicsit vagdos rajta.

Laufer Feri, my foundation partner. We are very good editors for each other, our best ideas always come from one of us while the other modifies it a little bit.

Mit érzel, amikor egy másik művész a tiédhez hasonló munkát készít?/What do you feel when a fellow artist creates something similar to your work? Szerencsére copy-paste másolással még nem volt dolgom. Ha hasonló, az nem zavar, de csináljon jobbat! Viszont ha rosszabb lesz, mint az enyém, az ciki. Egyébként ne legyünk naivak, a piac arról szól, hogy valaki kitapos magának egy új ösvényt, és ha jó irányba ment, akkor nagyon hamar megérkezik a nyakára az összes többi versenyző.

Fortunately, I haven’t had a ‘copy-paste’ experience so far. If it is similar or there is a minor resemblance, I don’t mind, but they should do it better. If it turns out t be worse than mine, that's embarrassing. But let’s not be naive, the market is all about someone pioneering a new way and if it goes in the right direction, others will follow them in the competition.

Mit szeretnél, hogy miről emlékezzenek majd rád?/What would you like to be remembered by? Azokról a dolgokról, amiket valamikor én terveztem, és még mindig használják.

Gyűjtesz valamit?/Are you collecting something? Nem vagyok egy lomos ember, de van egy-két terület, amiért megőrülök. Például elég nagy Braun fanboy vagyok, és van is egy egész korrekt gyűjteményem ’60-as évekbeli audio cuccaikból és a háztartási gépeikből. Tényleg, ezek a világ legszuperebbül megtervezett elektronikai cuccai. Ráadásul elkezdtek eléggé elszállni az áraik, ezért benne van az emberben a most vagy soha érzés. Szuperül meg tudom magam nyugtatni vele, hogy "ez az erősítő ennél csak többet fog érni". Valójában hamarabb árvereznék el a fejem felől a lakást, minthogy eladnám őket. Pár hete vettem egy KF21-es Braun kávéfőzőt. Nem kávézom. Úgyhogy szerintem ez sokat elmond. Aztán van a hatvanas évekbeli modern magyar kerámia... Török János zseniális Zsolnay tányérjaiból és vázáiból már szinte az összes megvan. Van egy csomó Vignelli-féle National Park Service-es prospektusom… kb ennyi. Ja, van egy csomó klasszikus edzőcipőm, és az összesnek tudom a történetét.

I am not big of a collector, but there are things I am crazy about. For instance, I am  Braun fanboy and I have an impressive collection of their audio stuff from the 60’s and household devices. These are the best designed electronic gadgets in the world. Furthermore, their prices started to sky rock, so one can think I buy them now or never. I can easily convince myself that ‘the value of this intensifier will just grow’. To be honest I rather have my apartment sold by auction than selling my collection. A couple of weeks ago I bought a KF21 Braun coffee machine. I don’t drink coffee. I think this says it all. Besides these, I also collect modern Hungarian china from the 60’s… I almost have every single piece of Török János’s Zsolnay plates and vases. I have a lot of Vignelli National Park Service brossures… that’s all. Oh, I also have a lot of classic training shoes as well, and I know the story of each and every one of them.

Kedvenc budapesti pillanat?/Favorite Budapest moment? Amikor egy pillanatra fogalmam sincs, hogy hol vagyok.

When for a seconfód I have absolutely no clue where I’m at.

Kedvenc tárgyad?/Favorite object? Pár hete erre a kérdésre a Max und Moritz só- és borszóró volt a válaszom (Wilhelm Wagenfeld, WMF/1953) a Hype and Hyper magazinban, és még mindig tartom.

Hogyan fogsz neki egy új munkának?/How do you get started on a new project? Tájékozódni, mindennek az az alapja. El kell kerülni, hogy megtervezzem a nyilvánvalót. Aztán ha már tudom, hogy mik a követelmények, és hol áll a világ az adott szegmensben, akkor a következő lépés, hogy egy csomót kell beszélni róla. Ezzel tök jól definiálja az ember magában a feladatot, nekem akkor jönnek a legjobb ötleteim. Közben persze lehet firkálni. Sajnos, nem vagyok vázlatfüzetes típus, rengeteg A/4-es papír között próbálok nem elveszni.

To gather information is the base of everything. I have to avoid designing the obvious. And then, when I know what the expectations are, and where the world is standing regarding the given segment than next step is to talk a lot about it.  By this, one can define the task effectively for themselves, I usually have the best ideas this way. Meanwhile, you can sketch. Unfortunately, I am not really a  sketchbook type of person, so I am trying not to get lost among a lot of A4 sheets of paper.

Van egy jól körülhatárolható hangulat, amikor könnyebb számodra az alkotás?/Is there a particular mood that makes creating and working easier for you? Olyan nekem nincs, hogy “leülök, és alkotok”. Inkább az a jó, amikor nem vagyok szétaprózva és tudok normálisan gondolkozni. Ez lehet egy hosszú autóút vagy csak simán pár nyugisabb óra este, amíg nem jön email, és nem csörög a telefonom. Ja igen, és hiszek a csapatmunkában, de csak és kizárólag úgy, hogy egy valaki felelős a projektért, a többiek pedig a keze alá dolgoznak.

I can’t just ‘sit down and work’. I prefer when I can think normally and I am not all over the place. This can either be a long car drive or just a few calm hours in the evening until I don’t start getting e-mails and phone calls. And I also believe in teamwork but only if one person is leading the team and the others work for him.

Sör vagy bor?/Beer or wine? Alapvetően sör, de nem nagyon értek hozzájuk. Persze, ismerem a fő típusokat, de azon túl nagyjából annyit tudok róluk elmondani, hogy finom, vagy nem finom. Nem túl trendi, de az utóbbi időben rettentően értékelem a stabilan jó minőségű nagyüzemi söröket. A túlcsinált kisüzemi söröktől egyre inkább kiráz a hideg.

Beer, however, I don’t know much about them. Obviously, I know the main types, but apart from that, I can only tell if it tastes good or not. It’s not very trendy but I have started to appreciate the good quality, industrially produced beers. I get the chills from these over brewed handcraft beers.

Mit szeretnél kifejezni az alkotásaidon keresztül?/What would you like to express through your art? Sokkal fontosabb, hogy a termék mit kommunikál, mint az, hogy én mit akarok kifejezni.

It is more important what the product communicates than what I want to express.

Milyen a stílusod?/What is your style like? Lázadó (nem).

Rebellious (not).

Mi az, ami a leginkább feltölt?/What can recharge you the most? Sokat beszélgetni érdekes emberekkel érdekes dolgokról.

To have many conversations with interesting people about interesting things.

Kedvenc étel?/Favorite food? Nürnberger bratwurst párolt káposztán. Nem egy szofisztikált kaja, de hát miért hazudjak.

Nürnberger bratwurst with steamed cabbage. It is not a sophisticated dish, but why should I lie.

Kedvenc évszak?/Favorite season? Nyár. A télnek maximum az az értelme, hogy érezzük a kontrasztot, és tudjuk értékelni a nyarat.

Summer. The only purpose of winter is to create the contrast so we can appreciate summer.

Mi a legrosszabb tulajdonságod?/What is your worst characteristic? Elég hamar eljutok arra a pontra, hogy olyan dolgokról beszélek, ami csak engem érdekel.

I can easily reach a point where I am only talking about things that only interest me.

Melyik korban élnél szívesen?/In which era would you prefer to live in? Nekem jó most, de pl. élnék a kréta korban, mert akkor lehetnék valami menőbb dinoszaurusz. Egyébként meg inkább elmennék Italo discora hullámozni ’83-ba, Riminibe.

I like it now, but I would like to live in the Cretaceous age because then I could be one of the cool dinosaurs. And I would go dancing to Italo disco in ‘83 in Rimini.

Van visszatérő álmod? Miről szól? Esetleg megjelenítetted már valamelyik alkotásodban?/Do you have a reoccurring dream? What is it about? Have you ever realized it in one of your works? Szerencsére nincs, és remélem, nem is lesz.

Fortunately, I don’t have a reoccurring dream and I hope I won’t have any.

Ha egyetlen tanácsot kellene adni más, esetleg még kezdő tehetségeknek, mi lenne az?/If you could give one piece of advice to someone else, maybe to a beginner talent, what would it be? Legyetek nagyon tájékozottak, és beszéljetek róla minél többet, hogy mi az, amit csináltok.

Be very informed, and talk about what it is that you do as much as you can.

A MOMÉ-n végzett formatervezőként 2012-ben, majd diploma után megalapította saját designstúdióját Laufer Ferivel. A Flying Objects fennállásának eddigi 5 éve alatt sok sikeres formatervezési, grafikai és design-stratégiai projekten dolgozott, az évek során munkáik megkapták a két legfontosabb design díjat, a Red Dot-ot és az iF Design Awardot. He graduated from MOME (Moholy-Nagy University of Arts and Design Budapest) as a designer in 2012, after he acquired his diploma, he founded his own design studio with Laufer Feri. During the 5 years of existence of Flying Objects, he works on many successful designs, graphics and design-strategy projects, and during these years his works have got the two most important design awards, the Red Dot and the iF Design Award as well. His main field of expertise is healthcare design and to from products out of innovative,  technologies without antitypes. Since the beginning of this year besides Flying Objects, he is also teaching at MOME at the design department.
