There was something that had been in the back of my mind while watching episode 7 that I didn’t manage to fit into any of the posts, and wasn’t quite sure how to approach anyway. As I mentioned before, Gon and Killua were quickly finding common ground to bond over during the endurance test despite coming from very different backgrounds. It’s nice to see, but not especially unusual in fiction or real life. What is odd is the difference between their ethical standards. 

To be as straightforward as possible: Gon is nice to just about everyone, and he’s quick to help people he’s just met. Killua, depending on his mood, is quick to slaughter people he’s just met, and not particularly interested in helping anyone. None of this causes any hesitation in Gon’s willingness to team up with Killua to challenge Netero. It’s possible he assumed Killua was joking about attacking and capturing his family and there’ll be conflict when he finds out how serious he was, but... I’d be a little surprised if they went with the misunderstanding route

Of course, the fact remains that so far, these two are just working together to pass the Hunter exam. The opening sequence and various narrative cues tell us that Gon, Kirapika, Leorio and Killua will continue to adventure together after they become hunters, but none of the characters have discussed this yet. Maybe after the exchange on the airship Gon is thinking ‘Once this test is over, I’m getting as far away from this freak as possible’
