Greetings from Flvrd! We have reached six months old and we have to say that it has been a very fantastic journey. Aside from serving you flavored visual stuff from the internet, we are finally have our own cute namecards and t-shirts fresh from the workshop!

We are nominated, you guys have voted and we have made it. Flvrd is in the 2011 Asia's Top 50 Apps list! You can check the list here.

This certainly gives us a huge boost moving forward. Thanks for all the support and votes.

We are very excited to announce that we will be joining Start-Up Chile with 153 other startups from all around the world. This means we will be moving to Santiago, Chile for six months to take Flvrd to another level of awesomeness.

So, What's Start-Up Chile?

Start-Up Chile is a program of the Chilean Government to attract world-class early stage entrepreneurs to start their businesses in Chile.

What We Got?

Seriously, everything that can make Flvrd better — the network, support, mentorship, startup culture and $40k equity-free seed capital. Personally, this will be a once-in-a-lifetime experience and a real launching pad for our entrepreneurship journey.

Flvrd was launched to the public four months ago and since then, many have expressed their excitement and love through blogs and Twitter. We want to make you guys more excited than ever! Get ready for a more polished version of Flvrd in the coming months.

Hello, hello!

It's time for some updates since we officially went public about a week ago. We had a soft launch with no buzz and certainly no Techcrunch effect. Traffic and signups mainly came from our email blast to those who signed up via our launching soon page. Interestingly, a significant portion of traffic came from a notable Spanish blog, WWWhat's New. They wrote about us and we didn't expect that at all! So, thanks guys for our very first blog coverage, appreciate the love.

Feedback

We received some very good feedback. Thank you all, we love them and we love to hear more :) You guys wanted more fun and happy stuff, we are happy to give you guys more because that is what Flvrd is all about.

Some updates

Very well, time for some updates. Here are what we have installed for you:

The ability to Like + comment on Facebook. Now you can like and comment on what you liked on Facebook via Facebook Like button.

Two new flavors. Well, looks like you guys like meme, aren't you? We have added two new flavicons — Memeworthy and Infographic. Sharing infographics is more fun than ever!

Email notifications. Never miss a conversation again :) Now you will get email notification whenever someone commented on your post or replied to your comment. Plus, you will also get notified whenever a person starts following you. *Notifications are on by default but you can turn them off via the notification settings page.

Flvrd is now open to the World!

A really huge milestone for us after four months of work but this is just the beginning and stay tuned for more awesome stuff to come.

There are few things to take note:

Flvrd is still in early beta. Bugs might pop out from no where, things might change here and there, features might be added or removed.

Signup requires a "secret code". You will need a secret code to signup but feel free to lurk around. We will post this code on Twitter and Facebook. So, watch out for #secretcode on Twitter :)

At Flvrd, if content is king then flavicon is queen. On our very first post, we talked about the concept of “flavoring” pictures and videos with flavors. By "flavoring" we didn't mean tagging (with tags). Sure, this is how it's currently done but we feel that tags are too plain and too messy at times. So we want, umm well something visual, simple and fun.

Say hello to flavicons.

Flavicons are the visual representation of flavors. Like tags, flavicons allow you to categorize pictures and videos based on their flavors. There are six types of flavicons:

Emoji: Facial expressions or emoticons.

Fancy: Interests or hobbies.

Meme: Internet memes.

Slang: Short-hand representation of expressions.

Special: Mostly just for fun, seasonal stuff.

Things: Stuff, objects or animals.

One more thing.

Flavicons are not just the visual representation of flavors. These cute and colorful round icons are your achievement "badges" as well. Notice the "Special" type of flavicon? Not everyone will have the same set of flavicons. You need to unlock them.

Here is how we summarize flavicons:

Flavicon = tag + category + badge + fun + color

Uh, no. We are not referring to foods/drinks here. We are talking about pictures and videos. Sure, we have flavors for food like barbecue... but how about flavors for visual thing like pictures and videos? Here is where Flvrd comes in.

Flvrd (pronounce as flavored, poor vowels) is a place to share and flavor pictures/videos, where pictures and videos can be flavored and get flavored. Flvrd lets people express their pictures or videos with taste, flavor them with flavicons.

At Flvrd, we want to create a different experience, a unique way for people to share and explore pictures or videos, just like how you enjoy food by its flavors and not by its type or color.
