The Flounced Top: # 120 Burda Style 05/20
Flounces are among the playful pieces in the garment designer’s vocabulary. Because they shift and float, they create movement which would be distracting at work, but is perfect for play. The 1930s, one of my favorite design periods, saw both flounced skirts and flounced collars, but the flounce has appeared in every decade of fashion although it is not always the most favored.
This is a new pattern with comes the simplicity of shape that marks many modern garments, but which adds an inspired flounce along the bottom and the side. They did it asymmetrically here, which either adds to the playfulness, or it may just be unbalanced to your eye. I don’t see why you couldn’t flounce both sides and create formal symmetry. There is a short invisible zipper at the back neck, but you could always skip that in favor of a keyhole opening and then close it with a button at the top. Maybe a fabric-covered button using the flounce fabric?
They recommend “fluid blouse fabrics” which really means, a fabric with drape like a silk crepe or a rayon challis that is lightweight. You want the flounce to be soft enough to move easily.
You can find it online as a pdf pattern and they also offer a tutorial on how to put together one of those--hint: you will need tape.
