Tutorial on how to install the floating commenting box on AO3
So for those of us who love live-commenting fics, there exists an amazing script tool created by @ravenel​ and described on this post. Basically the commenting box is floating as you scroll down the text so you can quote/write as you read without incessantly going and returning to/from a text editor.
I made this tutorial on how to install it on either Chrome or Firefox for @missmaxime​ but then I figured I might as well share it here so anyone else who’s interested could use it.
If you’re using another browser than Chrome or Firefox but know how to add extensions on it, then you can still follow part 2 of this tutorial since Tampermonkey is available for other browsers as well.
Step 1: Install Tampermonkey web extension on your browser
(You can skip this part if you’re used to install browser extensions)
On Chrome: Type chrome://extensions in the address bar. It normally shows your installed extensions.
Click on the menu button in the top left corner of this page. At the bottom there's an button linking to the Chrome Web Store. Click it.
In the web store search bar, type “tampermonkey” and select the first result.
You should land on a page looking like this:
Click on "add to chrome" and follow the installation procedure (you'll have to grant a few permissions for the process to fully complete).
On Firefox: Type about:addons in the address bar. You land on a page listing your already installed addons (if you have any).
In the search bar at the top, type "tampermonkey" and enter. It should bring you to another page looking more or less like this:
Click on the first result in the list (the black logo with the white two circles) and follow the installation procedure. You'll have to grant a few permissions when prompted for it.
Step 2: Install AO3 script on tampermonkey
Click on the newly installed tampermonkey icon (depending on your browser parameters, it can directly show in your toolbar, or be hidden, for instance you have to click on the little jigsaw puzzle icon in Chrome's main bar and select tampermonkey for it to show in the tool bar).
Click on Tampermonkey icon. You open a menu looking like this (my interface's in French, but yours should at least feature the same lines/symbols):
Click on "add a new script" (the '+' symbol).
You land on a new page consisting of a code editor. Delete ALL the default code already in the editor.
Open a new tab. Scroll down this page and click inside the "RAW paste data" box. Ctrl+A. Ctrl+C.
Paste the code you just copied in the aforementioned editor tab. Ctrl+S.Normally the page turns into this, which means that the script has been installed:
Open a new tab and go on any AO3 fic (or refresh one that is already open).
The floaty box button should appear along with the usual buttons on top of the fic page.
De-activating/uninstalling the script
If you ever get tired of it, you have four different ways to not use this script anymore.
You can deactivate it in Tampermonkey: go an AO3 page (you need to be on a page where the script is active to see it in the menu), click on the tampermonkey icon and then the script name line in the menu to de-activate. You will be able to re-activate it anytime you want. This way you can also keep using the other scripts you may be running with Tampermonkey.
You can delete the script from Tampermonkey: Click on the "dashboard" line (the penultimate one) in Tampermonkey's menu. A list of all the script you have installed shows. Find the line about the script you want to delete. Click on the little trashcan icon at the end of the line.
You can deactivate Tampermonkey itself. Click on the first line in Tampermonkey’s menu. This will de-activate the extension, so EVERY script you've installed on the extension will get inactive as a result. You can re-activate the extension anytime you want.
You can uninstall Tampermonkey from your browser’s extensions manager (please refer to step one for guidance on how to access it). This will delete the extension along with any script you may have installed.

Removed the last chapter link from listing pages entirely since it’s available from AO3, also removed links to the Floaty Review Box from appearing on non-fic pages.
Anon is talking about Floaty Review Box Script by Clexa, it's a little see through text screen that allows you to take notes w/o moving while reading things online, it's awesome! It's big in FanFiction but I think you can use it on other sites too.
Because AO3 has started to limit how many times users can access the site within a short amount of time (you’ll get a “Retry Later” error for a few minutes if you go to too many pages quickly), I’m disabling the Last Chapter (») and download links (↡) on any page that lists fics, since they load the first chapter of every linked fic to get that info.
If you want to turn it back on, install the script by text and at the top, change the value of bListingShortcuts to true.

I love the Floaty Review Box script! I just wanted to let you know that it seems like the script is no longer working in Firefox browsers (or at least mine) although it's still fine in Opera
This appears to be because of a Greasemonkey rewrite for Quantum. You can use tampermonkey in the meantime, but I’ll try to get it working for Firefox/Greasemonkey again. Thanks for letting me know!
If you're still doing updates on the script, might I suggest showing the word count per chapter for multi-chap fics? :) Also have you considered adding your script to GreasyFork? I'm not sure if the script already auto-updates from pastebin, but if it doesn't, adding it to GreasyFork will make updating easier for the users, too. Great script btw, I've been looking for one that adds a link to the latest chapter right from the list. Made saving them to my phone much easier. Thanks so much!

I saw this post by @astropixie about how it’d be nice to review fics on AO3 as you read. A little while back, because I was so in awe of the Clexa fic writers, I made this userscript (can install on Firefox by using Greasemonkey [ETA: use Tampermonkey on Firefox as well] and on Chrome, ETA: Opera, and Safari by using Tampermonkey) so that I could do just that. It doesn’t have the wattpad or soundcloud functionality, it’s just a little thing added on to a page, not something supported by the site itself, but it’s better than nothing.Â
