Ever wonder what your feet, hands, shoulders, elbows and hips should be doing in a vinyasa? What this quick vid for some cues. 1. Fingers spread wide at all times, pressing pointer finger and thumb mounds 2. When you move forward to plank, make sure heels, hips and shoulders are in one line.... no sagging hips! 3. Whether you are lowering half way to chaturunga or all the way to the floor, the elbows MUST stay tucked along side the body to avoid shoulder injury. This is KEY. 4. In chaturunga, the toes flip so that the tops of the feet are against the floor. Keep hips in line with shoulders. 5. In up dog press your hands into the floor and lift out of the shoulders. Note: thighs do not touch the floor. 5. As you move back to downward dog, lift the hips high, draw belly button to spine and knit ribs in. If you have tight hamstrings, keep a bend in the knees. Don't worry if your heels don't quite touch the floor. We are all made differently ! 6. The last arm balance is optional but is very fun and can build great core strength. Hi there! First of all, THANK YOU.
Secondly, splits take time & every person is different. It took me a couple of months to be able to do it. I didn’t really focus on being able to do right away. It just kinda happen.
One thing that’s good to remember about yoga, is that its okay if you can’t do a certain pose. Focus on the poses that you can do and your practice and it will happen when the time is right.
With that said, some poses that will help you with splits are:
- Pigeon Pose- Lizard Pose- Frog- Butterfly- Lunges- Forward folds- Straddle pose
There’s probably more that you could do but here’s what I could think of for now.Good luck and don’t worry about the splits. Just do your practice and all is coming.
