AIPD Concept Art Part 2
One of the things I never like in stories set in the future is that they never seem to go into more residential urban areas and instead focus on downtown and their gigantic skyscrapers.
(Like downtown is where everyone goes to work, duh. Nobody lives in a skyscraper except the absurdidly rich.)
That way when Rev goes in with his fedora and trench coat he looks entirely out of place. That’s really the whole point of this arc was to get him out of his element, with no robot gangsters or other futuristic criminals. Just him and Frankie trying to find the truth behind a mysterious murder in a neighborhood they pass by but never actually spent time in before.
Once again I find inspiration coming from the works of Brandon Graham when designing this part of town and mixing it with jet set radio. The real kicker was by referencing FLCL in the feel in some parts of this town.
The design language was rectalinear, covered in wires and pipes and fire escapes. And mixing that with a japanese feel.
Next we’ll get to the many people we’ll meet in this concrete jungle.
