I was doodling with shape and line tools in PS trying to sketch me one of the futurescapes in my comic that i keep working on for a billion years A.I.P.D.
When i was done it accidentally became some old school IBM Paul Rand/Saul Bass graphic design thing.

Was experimenting a lot with different techniques and things. First off i utilized a frank miller trick (using light negatives in order to simulate darkness and contures in works with limited color palettes). Second, i got bolder with the limited color palette. Third, i’ve never done this before but i started using feathering which I see Jim Steranko, Wally Wood, and Darwyn Cooke do a lot in their works. I love how it turned out. And as always i’m trying to fuse that beautiful Francesco Francavilla inking style with a bit of the messiness of Alexis Ziritt.
All this work for a simple joke with poor Rev taking all that abuse.
Just some screenshots from the comic i’m still working on.
I bitch a lot about the comic, but i truly do feel grateful that it’s getting made. There’s no greater feeling than seeing something that only existed in your head finally jump into the real world.
I wanted to share this concept piece I worked up from the current issue of A.I.P.D. I'm working on.I've also settled on a color scheme i'm happy with.
Yeah I know i never seem like i make enough progress on it but that's because I feel like i was way too ambitious with this one. Mainly because the issue features a lot backgrounds and new characters or that it includes a lot of graffiti.
And the script went under a hundred drafts before I was happy with it. I can't say i'm a master of graffiti, (especially since I have difficulty with WildStyle) but I'm decent at tagging and some kinds of pieces. (For my followers, that's a bunch of graffiti terminology I learned from my research). My friend @goatsnart has generously donated some pieces and tags (to which i am eternally grateful.)
Tumblr's such graffitifuckedupmylife and spraytrains have been enormously helpful. And documentary's such as bomb it, Exit through the gift shop, and infamy have all been beneficial. As hard as the comic is, I gotta say that it gives me excuses to gain new skills and try new things.
So here’s some process shots from the latest issue of A.I.P.D. i’m working on. My goal is to be able to finish about four complete issues and then upload them online. It’ll probably be like Bebop where each issue is updated via 1-2 pages weekly.
So here you can see various things such as the comics I keep around me to be inspired by, various scripts, one of several books on graffiti I reference for this issue, and some random sketches of OC’s I keep on my wall for no reason other than I like them.
As hard as it was to start the issue I find the current momentum I have to be carrying me through. Comics are hard work but it’s worth it.

Since I’m getting back to work on my comic I wanted to share a few more sketches of background characters from this issue. I ‘ve never liked how in a lot scif they always act that cybernetics will at your soul and it’s a slippery slope with the whole body modification. And I call bull$#!t on that. Like I’d feel that while cybernetics can look weird and scary there would be people who’d be proud of what they have. Also I really wanted to give some characters an akira inspired jacket.
Don’t worry i’ll post this one in color when I get around to it.
Another background character for the new issue based off a guy i actually know in real life. He’s a graffiti artist and an industrial designer. He’s also pretty nice too.
I always like the look of this guy. but it was only after i finished that I realized that he looked like Aang. Guess that’s what happens when you say make him look like a cyborg monk. Oh well....I like it.
