Ran the Imperial Palace loop this morning, trying to make out the Hiragana and Katakana on each sign I passed without breaking stride. I understood in the abstract that Japanese was difficult for an English speaker, but once I started trying to figure out even a bit of it I was astonished by its difficulty--and also lured in, as I tend to be by things that promise to be way over my head. One of the nice things about running in an unfamiliar place, though, is that even if you can't read the signs you're still speaking the same language of grunts and nods and flailing hands as all the runners around you, and you feel at home in that language and in the motion of your limbs and for the duration of the run you can feel as native as anyone. #flatgrass #amongthetrees #internationalhouseofrunning #whyirun #runtokyo #runbrooklyn #running #discoveryrun (en 皇居 Tokyo Imperial Palace)
