Ok but Keith coming back from the abyss finally ready to man up and admit to Shiro how he feels and he does... except itâs Kuron. They donât have much time to figure things out before Kuron goes crazy. And then they have the real Shiro back and Keith is avoiding him because heâs worried Shiro doesnât actually feel the same and it was just Haggar/Kuron manipulating him somehow and Shiro has to pin him down and convince him he really does love him bc THESE BOYS DESERVE TO BE HAPPY
ANONâŠ.im sorry this took so long but i saved this precious ask bc i knew i had to write it. pls accept this ANGST & FLUFF MESS bc i think about this a lot too
Keith canât meet his eyes.
He doesnât know how much Shiro remembers. He canât bring himself to ask. Shiro once told him he was brave, one of the bravest people he had ever met, and Keith hates to let him down. But he canât help but be a coward in this.Â
Because the alternative is that he loses Shiro. Again. Again, again, again. And Keith would rather have him like this, all troubled glances and long silences, than not at all.Â
Heâd used up all his bravery on the clone. In hindsight, he feels like a fool for not realizing sooner. Maybe he just didnât want to let himself see the truth, because Shiro saying, Keith, I feel the same way, was like finally coming home.
And when the time came, Keith was blind to his betrayal, blinded by the guileless happiness of resolution and requital he had never expected to have.Â
I died, Keith.
It was never Shiro telling him what he wanted to hear. Of course not. No, while Keith was drunk off the flashes of future blissful domesticity between them that heâd sworn heâd seen in the Abyss, holding the clone close and telling him he would save him over and over again, heâd failed to save the real Shiro. The real Shiro was trapped within the Black Lionâs fathomless consciousness, alone, dead.
How could Shiro ever forgive him for that? Keith canât.
So they orbit each other in the cockpit of the Black Lion like two neutron stars, dragging ever closer yet never quite meeting in the middle, because when they do, that will be the end of it.
When Shiroâs hand falls upon his shoulder after a training exercise, after Krolia has gone back to her quarters and left them in crushing silence, Keith jumps as if electrocuted.
Shiroâs hand moves away. âSorry,â he murmurs. âDidnât mean to startle you.â
Keith doesnât look at him; he knows what heâll see. Shiro stares at him like heâs a cornered animal, something pitiful and helpless. Maybe he is.Â
âItâs fine,â Keith says. His fingers itch to switch the Lion to autopilot, but something stops him. He sees Shiroâs reflection, only for a moment, in the glassy surface of the screens, and his eyes are sad. Heâs tired, and worried, and the circles under his eyes are dark and worn. Keithâs heart clenches, and he slowly turns, and looks up at him. âShiro?â
Shiro blinks, and sighs. âKeith,â he says, and his voice sounds like it did on the planet where Keith ran to him, jumped across a ravine to him, piloted the Black Lion for him. It is a single, guttural sound, dragging upwards, aching of something Keith is terrified to give a name.Â
âHave you been sleeping?â Keith asks, and immediately cringes at himself. Heâs not Shiroâs mother, god.Â
But Shiro shakes his head, and Keith has the very motherly urge to wrap him up in his arms and never let go when he says, âSleep doesnât come easy, and when it does...bad dreams.â
âOh,â Keith says. âI...Iâm sorry.â He licks his lips. âDo...do you want to talk about them, or...â
âSome of them are memories,â Shiro says, and Keith freezes. âAnd yes, I do want to talk about them. With you.â
âAre you sure,â Keith whispers, heart thudding and palms sweating. âWe donât have to talk about them, Shiro. We can just...â
His words trail off, hollow, hanging in the air between them like a waiting guillotine.
âJust what?â Shiro asks, a pleading note slipping into his voice. âForget it?â
âYes,â Keith says, weakly. âIf that would be easier.â
âEasier,â Shiro repeats. âKeith, how would it be easier to forget that you love me when I love you just as much?â
Keith forgets how to breathe.
At his silence, Shiro looks away. âOkay,â he says, âso maybe not as much, anymore. Thatâs okay. If...if you canât...after what I did...I understand.â
âI love you,â Keith whispers, and Shiro turns back, eyes wide. âBut Shiro, that memory, that wasnât...you donât love me, the clone does. Did.â
Shiroâs eyebrows lift. âAre you seriously telling me that I donât love you after I just said I did?â
âIt wasnât you,â Keith whispers, hunching his shoulders. âIf youâre remembering, then I donât want...I donât want you to feel like you have to feel what he felt, or say what he said...â
Shiro opens his mouth, then closes it. He takes a step closer. âOh, Keith,â he says. âIâve loved you since the day I left for Kerberos.â
Keith stands. Theyâre almost eye to eye, now. âDonât say that if you donât mean it,â he warns, begs, both.Â
âI mean it,â Shiro says, and cups Keithâs face in his warm, trembling palm. âI loved you then and I loved you every day since then. Every moment on the astral plane, I loved you. And I think that was what kept me going, Keith. It was you. I could have faded away, I could have let go, but I didnât, because I loved you so much it hurt. So much it terrified me.â His thumb strokes across the healed scar on Keithâs cheek. âTerrifies me, still.â
Keith reaches out, grasping clumsily, finding purchase in the gaps of Shiroâs armor and tugging him closer, as close as he can get him. âI let go,â he breathes, âbecause I love you so much it hurts.â
âI know,â Shiro says. âI was waiting to catch you.â

it turned out spicier than I was expecting it to. hope you like!!
His fingers twist guiltily around the mangled ticket stub in his pocket.
He shouldâve been satisfied with the date; the food was nothing short of amazing and the company even better. Talking and laughing with Shiro over plates of what resembled alien spaghetti and meatballs while his best friend turned potential boyfriend lovingly stroked his hand was something he only used to dream about. Hell, he shouldâve been satisfied when Shiro had first asked him to out dinner and clarified, red-faced and stuttering, that it was indeed a date.
And yet he wasnât.
It wasnât enough that theyâd spent the whole evening together, fingers interlocked while they sat at the theater for two more hours that night. Not even when Shiro had started dozing off and resting his warmer shoulder against Keithâs on the ride home. Surely, it had to be enough when Shiro offered to walk him to his front door in the picture-perfect ending to their first official date, right?
The ticket stub rips in half.
It still wasnât enough.
He refuses to let go of Shiroâs hand when the little cruiser cab drops them off at their current base. He squeezes that hand tightly as they approach Keithâs front door, wanting to savor every second of skin-to-skin contact, to steal some of that warmth and save it for later. And Shiro notices. He jokes that if Keith keeps working out the way he does, he would be able to take on his new robotic arm before long. And then he stops walking.
âShiro?â
He hears a ragged sigh and looks up to see Shiro looking at him, a troubled expression on his face.
âThis isnât going to work.â
No. No. What is he saying?Â
âShiroââ
He grabs the older manâs jacket, takes a desperate step forwardâ
âI need to stop treating you like a little brother,â Shiro whispers, eyes dark. âKeith.â
The lips are on his before he can even respond. Hot, wet, and possessive. He doesnât even have time to gasp when Shiro pulls away because that mouth is on him again in a heartbeat. Deep inside, the fire heâs been trying to put out all evening roars to life and the beast whispers the truth at last.
After all this time, all those years of pining and lusting after this man, you knew you could never be satisfied after just a date⊠or even just one kiss.
Yes. Heâd been wanting this for so longâso long that he ached for it deep in his bones the way a man in a desert ached for water. He would be the worst kind of liar if he denied it now.
He grabs what he can of Shiroâs short hair and tugs him in for more. His teeth sink into Shiroâs lip and he can feel the blood rushing fervently in his veins when he hears a satisfying groan.
Shiro would be his tonight. All his.
âCome on,â he gasps, scrambling to unlock his door as Shiroâs hands start rummaging under his shirt. âIâve got a spare toothbrush.â
Sheâs got electric boots a mohair suit
