Synopsis - Two Nights and a Day: Two Nights and a Day details a day from Dark Flame: an enemies to lovers MM urban fantasy. Book 1 of the Flame-Born series. This short erotica can be read as a standalone.​These nine chapters are the day Michael and Gabriel, the two protagonist spent with each other when Michael was consumed by a sexual trance called a Haze, which is brought on by absorbing too much of the supernatural energy called Flame. A day in which Commander Gabriel Flanagan had to assist Michael in an intimate and challenging way when Michael still considered him an enemy.​The short story gives insight into how the two men fell for each other even though it took a while for Michael’s head to catch up with his heart. And shows how compatible they are sexually, even though Michael would never want to admit that outside of a Haze.​This is an unapologetic erotica, no holds barred, dirty kinky stuff, and will not be to everyone’s taste. If you don’t enjoy erotica that includes dildos, bondage, and sub/dom dynamics, this short story is not for you. If you do, then this is nine chapter of naked naughty with our two men from Dark Flame, and I hope you enjoy reading it.
Personal Comments: Yet another new author recommendation that popped up in one of my reader groups and I was really intrigued. (I’m one of those types of people who gets easily drawn by covers and blurbs) I looked up the book on Goodreads as always before diving into a new series/author and to my surprise, a lot of readers said they enjoyed the book. I normally am the type to take reviews in general with a grain of salt and don’t let them judge my decision whether or not to read something that is good or bad. This one took me by surprise as I didn’t think I would enjoy it as much as I thought I would. Since there is a short erotica side story that was released alongside the main book I’ll review it here instead of giving it its own review.
Content Warning:Â At the start of the book there is a disclaimer for a on page rape scene in the book so if your not into that kind of material please tread with caution. As such I will exclude any mentions of these types of scenes from my reviews unless it is explicitly plot relative. (I will include this section any time I review a book with such warnings)Â
Rating: Dark Flame [8/10] There is always a type of charm I find when I read a book by a new author and this one checked my boxes. I feel as though with the rise of certain troupes within the m/m genre a lot of plots tend to become fairly repetitive with only a few changes here and there to make the story “unique” but with this one it vaguely reminds me of a similar story I read before from a different author but certainly has it’s own charm to it. The whole bond by blood and master/servant type setup is not uncommon in general but the setup with this one decides it wants to foreshadow heavily into a possible 3P situation which I am all in for. There is a significant amount of slow burn going through the book and man the sexual tension Michael goes through is enough to leave you wanting to rip the hair out of your head. The building of the relationship between the 3 main characters is somewhat questionable in my opinion but enjoyable to read nonetheless. I am interested to see where the story goes in the next book after a handful of foreshadowing between Alexei and Gabriel and further diving into Michael’s backstory regarding his heritage which was also heavily alluded to throughout the story. Funny side note I completely forgot the fact that the author is English as I was reading the book without an accent in mind, but once I remembered it made reading the rest of the book more enjoyable with having a English accent in mind.
Rating: Two Nights and a Day [7/10] I’m all about reading erotica and this one didn’t disappoint. I would argue that reading the main book would be better in terms of understanding the situation between Michael and Gabriel during their escapade to deal with Michael’s needs, but I guess I could imagine this being read as a standalone. There is a whole bunch of sexy scenes to the point when you thought you wanted to rip your hair out from reading the slow burn from the main book, this short just causes your brain to erupt in your head.   Â
Recommended?: If slow burn potential love triangle stories is your thing then I would say give this book a try. That aside I would say that the setup of the world and characters is well thought out through the book as characters are given proper page time equally and no one character feels like they were just written in for throw away purposes. There is a lot of potential for the main characters to grow for the next book and I can’t wait to see what direction the author decides to take them.Â
Audio: As of writing this review there is no news of any audio format for this book, if this series is ever picked up for audio I’ll update my review then.
