Today is May 7th meaning pride flags are officially banned on Utah state property including government buildings, schools, parks etc.
Something interesting I noticed though while reading H.B. 77 Flag Display Amendments in section 3 C-D it says the following flags are part of the ban exclusion list:
“(c) the current and official flag of another country, state, or political subdivision of another country or state;
(d) a flag that represents a city, municipality, county, or political subdivision of the state, as those terms are defined in Sections 10-1-104, 10-2-301, 17-50-101, and 17B-1-102;”
HB0077
“The current and official flag of … [a] political subdivision of another county or state” Boise is a subdivision of Idaho; and my oh my, they made the progress pride flag a official city flag to get around the flag law in Idaho just yesterday!
Council voted 5-1 to approve a resolution designating the Boise City Flag, the Pride flag and the white organ donor flag as official city fl
Salt Lake City also made some new official state flags!
So to any of my Utahns out there If anyone tries to condemn you for use of the SLC trans flag or of the pride flag. Those flags are official political subdivision flags and are not subject to the ban on government property. If you have the means to put them up, please do!
