THIS IS AMAZING! IāM GONNA SHOW MY PARENTS THEIR OFFICE ISNāT IMPOSSIBLE!!
* I am in my mid-forties.Ā
* I am on Year 5 of post-cancer treatment, so I donāt have a lot of energy and I donāt recover from stuff very fast.Ā
* I was already not fully able-bodied when I got the stupid cancer.
* I did it for me, not for anyone else. Not out of guilt over what I shouldĀ do. Not as a reaction to the memory of judgment from my late ancestors. Not for my spouse. Not even for my cat. I did it for ME, because Rachel Hoffman says I deserve to be comfortable.Ā
* It still took me more than 7 years to believe that I doĀ deserve to have control of my own space. That itās okay for me to have loved something once, but not love it now. That itās okay for me to TAKE UP SPACE; meaning, I donāt have to define a space for myself by making it completely unusable by any human in any way.Ā
* Some of the stuff I got rid of, I dithered about. I worried that someday I will need the proof that I used to matter to somebody. I worried that Iām contributing to the destruction of the environment, the permanent alteration of the Marianas Trench, and the dwindling resources of my later years. I worried that Iām throwing away the triggers for my own memories.Ā
* I donāt know if I will stick with it. I am not committing to that right now. I am committing to the current moment. Every day, I wake up and eventually feel like I wantĀ to spend twenty minutes on āProject: Loftā. OrĀ āProject: Old Computersā. The deal I have made with myself is, if thereās a day where I donāt do anything for this, Iām not going to think I am a failure. I can sit at my desk and just enjoy the fact that I can sit at my desk now.Ā
