“Oh, Fjor, you didn’t have to,” stuttered Fish as she awkwardly grabbed the present he was handing her. 

They were both sitting on her bed, which wasn’t that big of a deal, really, he had been at her place a hundred times. And yet, she could feel her heat beating loudly in her ears. She hoped her cheeks weren’t too red, but just in case, she looked down on the beautifully wrapped box, letting her hair fall over her face like a blue wave. 

Unwrapping the colorful paper, she opened the little velvet box, revealing a silver necklace. It had her name as a pendant, written in Old Norse. 

If she hadn’t been blushing before, she was now.

Well, the confusion made sense, didn’t it? After all, they had come to the dance together. The whole thing had been orchestrated by Saxa, and Fish suspected that the blond had figured out that Fish had a crush on his brother. But it didn’t matter how she felt, because Fjor liked another girl. And if the student’s remark brought a flush to her cheeks, it was quickly followed by a knot in her stomach. 

Fjor and her were not dating. Not at all. 

And now, he was looking at her with insistence, as if somehow she had to be the one to clear things up. 

For a second, she felt like crying.

“Oh, haha, no, we just came together as friends! He didn’t have a date, and I didn’t have one either, so it was just more fun like that!”
