I should probably read the turn of the story book but i remember quitting reading the online installments because I just felt so FUCKING furious about Serene and Golden Boy leaving Elliott out in the cold. It is entirely realistic that they would be selfish self-centred kids who don't recognise a cry for emotional help if it slapped them in the fucking face but I was just so FUCKING furious that Elliott - that fucking LINE. THAT ONE FUCKING LINE about how Serene challenges elven conventions and traditions in the end.... for Golden Boy. For their relationship, while she kicked Elliott to the curb for her sexist fucking worldview and would never ever have bound herself to him and declared him worthy to the other elves despite his gender like she did for Golden Boy. I justt!!!!
And then Elliott is like : fuck it. Fuck this I'm going home and I'm not coming back. At one point.
And then he realises he won't necessarily find somebody who values him for who he is (I finally understood the need to be somebody's number one through Elliott's character) in the normal world and he goes back.
And then Golden Boy has the GALL to be upset at Elliott that he didn't come back to fighting school bc Serene is embroiled in another war and they need to save her. And I'm just like : you fucking piece of fucking SHIT.
Elliott literally facilitates Golden Boy's growth from being a racist piece of shit warrior into a less racist piece of shit warrior with an appreciation for peace and justice and moral responsibility, Serene's growth from being a sexist piece of shit to a slightly less sexist piece of shit and honestly I couldn't tell you what other things her character consists of except a reversal of sexist assumptions which I think is ironic.
I'm just like ??? They are truly so distant ??? They never fucking talk about their feelings or what? They don't understand that it might be pertinent to tell Elliott that he is super important to them?? (Beyond saving his life multiple times at risk to their own) They don't even NOTICE how they hurt him.
It makes me so resentful of them. Especially Golden Boy because he's gonna get cool wings on top of everything.
And then I quit when Elliott suddenly noticed his mum amongst the medics I was like. Firstly, you just spotted this woman? Really? In the two years you were there or so?
I didn't really get a few of the turns of the story bc I thought for sure that Golden Boy was developing feelings for Elliott.
Anyway I shipped Elliott and Serene hard and the no resolution to her sexist piece of shit ways breaking off their romance because ...because she was just blowing off steam with him or whatever?!! I don't even know how she saw things because I don't know a single thing about her inner world except sexism, protective tendencies and brilliance. Cool.
Idk it makes me furiously upset to think about that the only people Elliott has take him for granted so much that they don't even give a FUCK about how he must feel.
Elliott's extremely sharp mind and humour (absolutely hilarious) and staunch moral pacifism and justice and peace oriented action impressed me so much. His ravenous curiosity for other peoples inspired me. To see him go so neglected and hurt by those who are supposed to care for him (without even NOTICING) was just infuriating.
