I'm about to get at least mildly parasocial, but I have to emphasise that I am in no way diagnosing another human being. I'm just talking about his public persona and where it meets me, an autistic person
Masks are so tied to autism we use it as shorthand for the way we need to adjust ourselves and perform to make other people feel better
Taliesin have spoken in an interview about about how some of the inspiration for Bolaire is depersonalization
He also spoke in multiple places about being essentially in the public eye since he was a toddler, with all the implications that have for forming one's own identity
What absolutely clinched it for me is the scene after he got on Rulius and the play he tried to put on, the idea that since he's struggling with his identity as an individual bc he only knows life through the imitation of others and what does it says about his emotions when all he can do if perform what he experienced looking at others
Bolaire is a wonderful autistic representation. I love his so much. He's a sibling to my soul, in a similar way to Ashton as a person with chronic pain.
I hope someday I'll get to thank Taliesin in person for what he's giving us as a community and for me as an individual.
