reasons ruth shouldn't be let out in public:
so while I was out with fizzlekpop (my darling idjit jas) yesterday, I dragged her inevitably into hmv (because I like to spend hours ogling dvd's and complaining about the lack of little-known animated films available on dvd in earshot of the staff, while she hides in the 'listen to preview' booth in the world music section doing her usual scout for kpop), which was probably not a good idea.
once I had eventually found the anime section, and did a double take at the fact that yes, there was no studio ghibli (cue incessant bitching), I ended up dragging her over to the alphabetised television boxsets in an attempt to find supernatural.
I did find supernatural, but it was being blocked by your stereotypical nerd couple* (see; short, curvy girl with sharply cut hair, tatty jeans and a leather jacket that doesn't quite fit, with corresponding tall skinny boyfriend wearing the same ensemble), so I was basically clutching onto jas' arm and vibrating (ooer) with excitement until they left. when they did I basically:
threw myself (and consequently dragging jas behind me) at the shelf
discovered they only had season six
bemoan lack of previous seasons
spending ten minutes bitching about season six/expound on while seasons 1-5 were much better/go into raptures about cas**
eventually back away sadly to discover that the ultimate box set of supernatural seasons 1-6 was on the 'hmv recommends' shelf behind me
almost die of a heart attack of joy
then realise I already own season 1, and that I didn't have the money on me for the boxset anyway
go into raptures about the fact that misha is on the cover
eventually realise that I've been making an ass out of myself for the last hour and retreat in embarrassment
I can only express thanks for the miracles that my favourite people (carmen and jas being prime examples) find my nerd-outs hilarious rather than terrifying and weird and certifiable.
*jas and I had just been talking about stereotypical nerds versus nerds in general; for example, whenever I walk into a comic book store or a game store, I always get double takes because I don't look like a general member of the clientèle - a fact I find amusing, because I am just as big a nerd as anyone in there, but whose personal sense of style differs from the usual. I find it interesting how the clothes people wear can reflect an almost group mentality, since you'll often find that people who dress similarly flock together, nerds being just one example; but whether it's an example of conscious or subconscious thought is what makes it interesting. do people with similar interests dress the same way because their personal tastes are connected, and therefore certain interests can affect personal style, or is it all just coincidence?
**I should probably mention that where jas' boyfriend loves supernatural, jas is basically clueless.
