Another from the list of films I wish existed:
A film version of the Illiad that embraces the fantastical elements of the source material and goes as far as it can with the over the top bizarreness. Grounded and fairly realistic period war movies are fine(I like quite a few of them) but this is the story of a war that got started because three goddesses got mad at each other at a wedding; this really shouldn’t be one. Give me a film version of the Illiad where gods bestride the battlefield playing favorites among the mortals as they see fit and occasionally fighting among themselves as they do so. Give me a film version of the Illiad where Achilles kills so many dudes that the river he’s standing in gets mad about all of the corpses and starts fighting him. Just a film of the Illiad that is willing to take advantage of the fact that it takes place in a fantasy version of the past and just goes crazy with it.
