Ive justed finished drawing this week's letter in the animal alphabet. We've now reached 'G' is for Greyhound! . . Growing up we had a Greyhound called lady, I learnt to walk by pulling myself up holding her collar, and walking along side her. She was an ex racing dog, with a number tattooed inside her ear. She was terrified of you closed a door on her, and if you let her off the lead, racing was so engrained in her that she would only ever run in circles. . . I've gone very abstract this week. I wanted her to be blooming our of the flowers, and I've almost got the effect I had in my mind's eye. . . Created using pilot biro, this drawing is A5 sized. Here's this weeks edition to my Animal Alphabet. Week 4 sees us reach 'D' is for Dodo! . For those of you who don't know, every Friday I'm drawing the next letter in an animal alphabet, and as a special deal, the original illustration will be up for grabs for only £5 (+postage) . . A little about the humble Dodo. (From Carnegie Museum of Natural History Website which I also used for reference for my drawing) A decendant of the pigeon, Dodo's lived on the island of Mauritius, and their lives changed upon the arrival of Dutch settlers 1590's. With no natural predators to fear, Dodo's treated man as friends. And humans found them comically easy to turn into dinner. :( Ships also brought with them new predators such as rats and cats, and it took less than 100 years for the Dodo to disappear. . A tragic tale that I'd like to think man has learnt from. . According to Endangered Earth, there are now 41,415 species on the IUCN red list, 16,306 of them being endangered species threatened with extinction. . Here is the first of today's two #fiverfriday offerings. 🌱 Meet Terry the Mandrake. 🌱 Terry is a Mandrake from Swansea. Nothing fills Harry's little heart with more you than to take in a good lungful of fresh air and sing his wee heart out. The other plants in the garden used to tremble when Terry started to sing... but in time they grew accustomed to his tenor, some even started to join in.
