So I was thinking about how instead of removing conservation funding; focusing on at least solar and wind energies instead of coal, shale, gas and oil; and not doing the keystone pipeline in a way that will poison hundreds and thousands of Americans (if there is no safe way then we have to abandon ship on that completely and not poison a lot of Americans) the up and coming government should focus more on how to incorporate solar into daily lives. Put panels on all government buildings (including schools and low income housing). Put wind farms on the land we graze cattle on. Etc. These types of projects would essentially do what I'm assuming the proposed actions are meant to do (provide jobs for American people) and wouldn't fucking destroy the ground we live on. This, however, spurred a question I never had before: are the White House and Pentagon solar powered? So I did the research for you, and to a certain extent yes. The White House originally had solar panels installed in 1979 under President Carter. In 1981 President Reagan promptly removed all 32 panels (that are believed to only heat water at the time) due to the fact that the president at the time believed the solar panels to "be a joke". During President Clinton's time in office he had the Pentagon include solar panels as part of their 10 year renovation plans. In 2010 President Obama announced that he would (re)install between 20 and 50 solar panels to the White House, and construction started in mid to late 2013 for these panels. I'm not sure why I never heard about this especially since schools like to talk about things the president is doing and I was in a liberal area at what could be considered a liberal school. I left my research there as my questions were answered with two simple google searches, but I am heavily hoping the current President-Elect doesn't pull a Reagan the second he gets sworn in. This semi-disconnected rant is brought to you via google via https://thinkprogress.org/obama-administration-becomes-the-third-to-install-solar-panels-on-white-house-grounds-8afd1867cd0f#.8d0hc5isw And http://www.achrnews.com/articles/96793-solar-power-system-installed-at-pentagon I'm an HTML pleb and don't know how to make those small click bits that say "there" but brings you to the site so haha you have to deal with the whole damn URL
