#five characters meme

A poll with five of your all-time favorite characters, and then tag five people to do the same. see which character is everyone's favorite. That is the plan and @lttrsfrmlnrrgby tagged me in it! 💜

1. Edward Chris von Muir (Final Fantasy IV)

Edward was the character who inspired me to create an OC whom Aenor was based on, and I can still see some similarities between them. Like Edward, Aenor might appear weak or cowardly, and both of them are delicate and fairly emotional. Nevertheless, for all the flak Edward gets (or has got), he has shown strength in the face of adversity as well (especially in the sequel of FF4) - and so has Aenor.

2. Eisen (Harukanaru Toki no Naka de)

Eisen might the fictive character whose personality is most similar to Aenor. He is timid, insecure and at times self-sacrificing, and though he is a good person, he has a relatively low opinion of himself. Aenor shares all of those traits. Even Eisen’s Japanese voice actor makes me think of Aenor. Basically, the only difference between them are colour palette, setting - and the fact that Aenor isn’t very much musically inclined.

3. Cecil Harvey (Final Fantasy IV)

Cecil is in some ways fairly naive and struggles with the guilt of his past actions, which is something Aenor can easily relate to. Though one of them is a Dark Knight / Paladin and the other something of a Mage / Priest hybrid, they are linked by a certain kind of duality in their abilities... and Cecil’s English voice actor could also make a decent fit for Aenor.

4. Shiroe (Log Horizon)

Shiroe is a guild leader, much like Aenor, and both are ability-wise oriented towards supporting others - even though in Aenor’s case it’s more due to his own choice rather than in-universe limitations. While Shiroe is a tad bit cleverer and more manipulative than Aenor, the two of them can also turn awkward in social situations... especially if someone is trying to show them affection.

5. Kira Yamato (Mobile Suit Gundam SEED)

Like Kira, Aenor is haunted by the lives he has taken and nowadays strives for disabling his opponents rather than killing them - if he has to fight them at all. While Kira is notably more powerful than Aenor, they both are relatively naive (especially early on) and have walked a long and meandering path to reach the point where they now stand.

Melanie/The Girl with All the Gifts 

Leading off with a dark/intense one but OK I am who I am!!!  Melanie is resilience and brilliance and the idea that the real genius is open understanding. Trapped in a dystopian world and further trapped within that world in a Plato’s cavelike experience where she isn’t even allowed to physically move or express herself, and yet pieces together the whole world. Doesn’t fit in anywhere but is so profoundly gifted she transcends this. Seeks to understand, and because of that seeking to understand, is sometimes the only person who can see the potential for a (different) future. Maybe it’s self-aggrandizing to identify with this but Melanie is everything I aspire to be. She literally faces up to the task of remaking a world that doesn’t have a place for someone like her. Gravitates toward the smallest kindness. She is born to and raised in hate, but moves toward love. Realizes that even the darkest world cannot shut out moments of beauty, and derives an entire future from that. She makes compassion possible in a world of horror and is more powerful than her captors because of it. 

2. Eleven/Doctor Who

Ok maybe this is a weird one because gender but hey he’s also an alien so like? There’s something about the specific storylines that were tackled in this run of DW that felt like me. A goofball, radical sense of humor, yet a fiery core of anger at what he’s witnessed, full of manic problem-solving energy, biggest heart, weird uncle type, accidentally flirty at every moment but outraged that other people aren’t focused on the crisis at hand, kind of surprised to not be dead, has ideas other people can’t follow, has too many ideas on top of each other all the time and gets upset about it, feels really strongly but often detaches because it’s so much, binges on art and puts artists on a pedestal. Falls in love with Trouble (goddamnit). Deals, constantly, with the massive contradiction between being a joyful and hopeful and loving person who had also fought, and caused harm, and knows they are capable of hurting people. A lot. And somehow keeps choosing to come back to the idea that every single life is worth the universe.

3. Phryne Fisher  PHRYNE! Ok, talk about a woman who refuses to be defined by her time, which we all need to be. Perhaps a unifying theme in these are people who see the real world for what it is but god damn REFUSE to let that dictate who they are and what they get to do and if they get to have fun. Phryne is about adventure and spunk and sass. Loves puzzles and style and panache and quips. Lives the adventure/cozy mystery dream. DEFENDS HERSELF. Has a blast at all times despite sheltering a core of past trauma and sadness at loss. Assembles a found family because she understands loss. Ready to step in and lead and protect her oddball found family and wouldn’t even think before putting herself between them and danger....even though she’s much more of an outrageous aunt than a mother figure (quite me, sigh). 

4. Bo/Lost Girl

What can I say, I love this dumb great terrible show and I identify with Bo, who is my teenager Sorta Goth Kind of Leather Corset Dream Come True. Loyal AF, like TO THE DEATH loyal, to her female friends. Has the absolute most fun when kicking ass with said female friends. Sarcastic and sweet in equal measure. Needs a found family, has a shit family (a theme!!). Somehow both sleeps with and falls in love with  e v e r y b o d y  but only derives power from it. SwitchTop(tm). Superhero who utterly refuses to pick a side because dichotomies are fucked. Did I mention the style.

5. Every “Robot With Feelings” Character Ever

Yeah, I said it. I love this character where there’s a robot who doesn’t really belong but is a beloved member of the crew/OR an essential piece of the disaster because their humanity has been denied and I love them across universes, whether they’re warm and charming analytical soul finders like Data or Tear The Oppression A New One Dial Me Up To A Genius firestorms like Maeve in Westworld. Trying to get by in an alienating world. Viscerally and constantly consumed with finding freedom.

19 - Get caught in a questionable position with 

….How about both! 

Team Originals:

Abi can see through walls, therefore we wouldn’t get caught in the first place. 

Zeno. I feel like he has no sense of embarrassment over stuff like this, and it would help me feel the same.  

Shuten. I think zero people would be surprised by this. Whoever caught us would just be like *shrug* “oh okay, carry on.”

Hiryuu. He is beautiful and I would have all the bragging rights but I feel like the all the dragon warriors would be murderously jealous. 

Guen. I don’t trust him not to accidentally stab me with his dragon’s claws in an attempt to get back into a less compromising position when we get caught. 

Current Dragons + Yona:

Kija. He would be SO BLUSHY, and it would just be plain hilarious, to the point of being worth the risk of any accidental wounds that may occur. 

Jae-ha, who can probably smooth-talk our way out of any embarrassment and/or just roll with it. 

Shin-ah. I headcanon him as hella ace and I think a lot of other people do too, so we could just be like “we were platonic snuggling!” and everyone would believe us because it would be true. (Also I really do want to platonically snuggle Shin-ah honestly)

Zeno. But I’d feel guilty because of Kaya, in this time period.

11 - To drag them away from a big fight because they’re injured 

(but I want to save and protect ALL of them ;____; )

Kija. I think he’s the one who’s most likely to throw himself into danger and push himself too far in fighting (Jae-ha tells him as much at one point) and he’s the one I’m most worried about getting badly injured/killed. I need to save this child from himself. 

Shin-ah. If he’d used his power and was unconscious, he’d be helpless on the battlefield, and could easily be hurt, or captured, in the same way Abi was. (It’s just my headcanon, but I am pretty certain Abi’s capture was because of the losing-consciousness-on-the-battlefield thing. In general that seems like a major oversight on the part of the dragon gods). Also, Seiryuu power or not, Shin-ah has been stabbed twice in the manga (I think?) and it hurts me every time to see because he’s my smol innocent cinnamon roll baby and must be protected at all costs. 

Hak. I think he’s the one next most likely to fight on beyond what he can handle/be irresponsible about being injured. 

Jae-ha. Despite how much he cares about and wants to protect the others, I feel like he’s got more common sense and knows better when retreat is the best strategy in battle. Also, with his power he’s more able to get away on his own if necessary; it’s kind of his thing.

2 - Shipwrecked on a desert island with

Fingon. I think his wilderness survival skills would probably be the best of the lot and I figure he’d be good at comforting me when I started to despair. Which I 100% would do. (Also of all the elves in this, Fingon has probably had most contact with humans/actually likes and understands them.)

Lalwen. Just headcanon, but I like to think she’d be pretty good at survival out in the wild too. Can probably handle this in a much more level-headed way than I can.  

Edward Elric. He’s done this island survival before, for one thing, and also I think (if it’s when he’s still able to do alchemy) that would be super useful. (As long as he doesn’t get hungry and grumpy and hallucinate me being food, that is)

Curufin. Might be able to rig up some sort of amazing signalling device to get us noticed and/or rescued, but would probably be really pissy and disparaging about the whole thing. 

Envy. I… really wouldn’t want to be stuck in any confined space with them because I figure at best they would be super irritating, and at worst would kill me for fun when they started to get bored, which would probably be quite soon. 

16 - Sent to assassinate me

Edward Elric. I don’t think he’d be able to go through with it, or maybe I could talk him around. He’s so fiercely independent and principled that I think that the only reason he’d actually be sent to assassinate someone would be if someone was threatening someone he loved (probably either Al or Winry, let’s be real, eg. like in the Briggs arc when Kimblee tried to blackmail him into using his alchemy to kill people) so yeah, I’d be like “well... you COULD do this... but I know you don’t want to. What about if we come up with a better plan and together defeat the person you’re being forced into working for that wants me dead?” ...and Ed would almost definitely agree. So yeah, we do that instead, I survive, the day is saved. 

Lalwen. Let’s be real, I don’t think that I’m surviving an assassination attempt from any of the others and if any of them are going to kill me, I’d rather it was her. 

Curufin. He’d be very quick and efficient, and maybe I could sneak in an interesting discussion about science and maths and politics before he kills me? He probably loves to talk about his ideas with anyone who’s interested. 

Envy. They would gloat insufferably before killing me, and Who Needs That.
