“Do you realize that you are only proving I was right in bringing you here?” Lincoln whispers against Fitz’s trembling cheeks, and Fitz closes his eyes, letting the feeling wash over him. He is too old and it’s too late to pick ridiculous fights with his husband- in a broom closet of all places-, so he will let this one pass: that way he will preserve his energy for next time.
“Why did you do this anyway?” he asks instead, avoiding the soft look in Lincoln’s eyes while he pets Fitz’s hair down- the hair that he messed up himself two seconds ago, mind you.
“I told you: I missed you.”

The day Leo met Lincoln Campbell, his entire life changed. He slowly blinked open his eyes in the bright hospital room and groaned. His entire body hurt. It hurt and he couldn't, he couldn't think. But there was a face, blue eyes, a kind smile.
"There he is," the voice soothed. Leo tried to speak, and the words didn't come through. "It's okay. You're alright. You're in the hospital. You were in an accident, but we're looking after you."
His recovery is slow. Words come eventually, but his hands are worthless, his career as an engineer slipping away with every fumble. Doctor Lincoln Campbell stays at his side throughout his recovery. Somehow, that becomes affection, and love. There isn't just one day they decide to become a family. It comes slowly over time, and then, one day, they stop thinking of themselves as separate beings and become the Fitz-Campbells, them against the world.
