Futrus, one of Allah’s proximate angels, lost his wings when he fell short in his duty. He visited the Holy Prophet (s.a.w.a.) along with Jibrail on the occasion of Imam Husain’s (a.s.) birth. He sought the Prophet’s (s.a.w.a.) intercession to regain his wings. The Prophet (s.a.w.a.) prayed for him. Allah revealed to the Prophet (s.a.w.a.) to order Futrus to rub his wings against Imam Husain (a.s.). The Prophet (s.a.w.a.) instructed Futrus – Rub your broken wings against this newborn. Angel Healed by Imam Hussain (as).
Imam Sadiq (as) said "When Hussain ibn Ali was born Allah ordered Jibraeel to descend with 1,000 angels to congratulate the Messenger of Allah on behalf of Allah and himself.
On his way Jibraeel descended on an island in the sea where an angel named Futrus lived. Futrus was one of the carriers of the throne.
At one point, he had procrastinated about carrying out an order of Allah. Therefore, his wings were broken and he was thrown onto this island. He continued worshiping Allah on that island for 600 years after which Hussain was born.
Futrus asked Jibraeel, where are you going?
Jibraeel replied, Allah blessed Muhammad with a child and i have been sent to congratulate him on behalf of Allah and myself.
O Jibraeel take me with you. Perhaps Muhammad will intercede for me, Futrus said.
So Jibraeel carried Futrus. When they arrived Jibraeel congratulated the Prophet on behalf of Allah and himself, then informed him of Futrus. The Messenger of Allah told Jibraeel to bring Futrus inside.
After Futrus was brought inside he informed the Prophet of his situation. The Prophet prayed for him and said to him: Rub your wings on this newborn child Hussain and you will return to your original position.
Futrus rubbed his wings on Hussain and started ascending to the heavens.
As he was ascending, he said: O Messenger of Allah! Verily your nation will kill him. Verily as my repayment to him no one will come to his ziyarah, say salaam to him, or send blessings on him without me informing him of it.
