Okay, Phandom, this is out of the blue (well, that’s where I float around anyway, shouldn’t be surprising, right?), but I was just thinking about how much platonic friendships in my favourite shows mean to me and was thinking about some such friendships that came to mind (like Elementary’s Holmes and Watson, in my opinion, are a wonderful example of a partner/platonic friendship dynamic) and naturally, I also came to think of one of my absolute favourite shows, Miss Fisher. And...I couldn’t think of any? I thought this show has it all but I really can’t think of a single platonic friendship example.

Platonic relationships, yes, absolutely, and they’re all wonderful. But not friendships as such. Dot isn’t friends with Bert and Cec, in my opinion. They have this beautiful sibling thing going on, in my mind. But not a friendship. Neither has Phryne. She values them and thinks of them as part of her extended family but they’re not friends. Nor is anyone, sadly, really friends with Mr Butler.

Phryne isn’t friends with Hugh and neither is Jack friends with Dot. Nor is Jack friends with Mac, though he surely values her and their relationship is wonderful. But try as I might, I find no friendships there.

The only real friendships, I think, we get to see are Phryne and Mac (and now it occurs to me that I should have specified that I’m talking about f/m platonic friendships...) and they are fabulous together. Phryne and Jack are turning into something like friends but there’s nothing very platonic about it, is there ;D Apart from those...nada. Wonderful relationships, for sure, but no more friendships. At least not among the regular crowd.
