I’m officially caught up with once upon a witchlight and first let me say that I love how clear it is that Mikey is having more fun playing Gricko since he changed the character meta and I also love how they include (mostly) Andy thanking Nikkie after each session because I feel like for a hot second there people were being really nasty about her DM-ing which wasn’t fair at all. Also torbek is progressing as a character in a really interesting way; listening to him go from fawning to testing limits and picking little fights/kind of antagonizing Gideon and Frost is such a realistic portrayal of the behavior patterns people who have been through severe trauma exhibit. From the year I spent in treatment + the year and a half I spent working in children’s psych it’s really engaging my brain to be picking up on little indicators that torbek is feeling more secure in the Krew to the extent that he isn’t solely focused on not being abandoned or worse and is actually engaging with the behaviors that his peers exhibit. I also think it’s really telling how Gideon and Frost especially react to it because they both have very obviously unhealed aspects of their pasts and they reflect back through the way they interact with torbek pushing boundaries and mirroring the ‘tough love’ relationships the krew have with each other. Especially in Ep. 62 with Torbek stealing gideons knife and then explaining exactly how he expects the move to be perceived and how he expects future interactions will go, he’s clearly observing and noting the way that Gideon plays around with the rest of the Krew and feels safe enough to expect similar treatment. And then when Gideon tells Kremy that he wished for heightened understanding of mech. in order to help Torbek because Torbek reminded him of himself??? “…I know I don’t say it often, you probably know, but man, there’s a part of me that never left that train.” (Ep. 65 2:13:04) like holy shit is that not some fucking character development.

But secondly I’ve started Icebound and I am shocked but equally not shocked at how different Derek is as a DM. It’s a little slow for the first like 3 hours of the first episode but things are heating up and I’m excited by the suspense and mystery deaths. I also am continuing my streak of loving goblin characters apparently because I love Skrim he reminds me so much of Grizzop from Rusty Quill Gaming.
