Oyo Rooms (stylised as OYO), also known as Oyo Hotels & Homes, is an Indian hospitality chain of leased and franchised hotels, homes and living spaces. Founded in 2013 by Ritesh Agarwal, OYO initially consisted mainly of budget hotels. The startup expanded globally with thousands of hotels, vacation homes and millions of rooms in India, Malaysia, UAE, Nepal, China, Brazil, Mexico, UK, Philippines, Japan, Saudi Arabia, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Vietnam, the United States and more.
The company's investors include SoftBank Group, Didi Chuxing, Greenoaks Capital, Sequoia India, Lightspeed India, Hero Enterprise, Airbnb and China Lodging Group.
Currently due to covid OYO had to go for a few months without any booking which put the company which was already facing multiple problems into crisis mode. The company had been constantly firing employees because of reduced revenue and competition.
Many partner hotels for the company had problems with the payment and management and were leaving the company and joining their competition, there were many safety violations coming up for the company including women safety, sharing data etc. Due to covid the company has had a hard time sustaining as they had to let go of many properties apart from the many problems they have faced.
