Best Gun For New Shooters And First Time Buyers: The PCC
I am sure like a lot of you over the past few months I’ve receive a few inquiries from friends and “family” about what gun to get. A few of them own firearms, but not what you or I would consider a defensive firearm. So not wanting to lead someone astray I pondered the question, dissected it layer by layer, and tried to place myself in their shoes. These are the considerations I believe to be…

My history with firearms
At the time of writing this I am 20 years old and I have been around firearms for my whole life. My family and I spent a lot of time out in the countryside so, firearms have always been a part of everyday life for me. I learned to shoot when I was probably about 5 or 6 and by the time I was 7 my dad had bought me my first gun for shooting varmints (squirrels, gophers etc.) that caused destruction to property.
I have always loved firearms and hunting, I remember when I was a kid wanting to go hunting and watch my dad get a deer and when I was about 12 I got my Hunter’s Safety course so that I could get a deer too. Throughout my teens I was introduced to more types and calibers of firearms other then just rifles and shotguns. My dad showed me how to properly hold and shoot handguns as well as AR style rifles, I practiced with him any chance I got to continually get better.
When I was 19 I found out that my hometown was holding PAL and RPAL courses (PAL and RPAL are two types of gun licenses that you can acquire in Canada, A further explanation about them will be in a later post.). I took the classes that I needed to take and I passed the tests that I needed to pass and a couple of months later I received my new licenses in the mail. I was now able to buy firearms and continue my favourite hobby.
The first gun that I bought was a Smith and Wesson M&P 9mm handgun, and since then I have bought an additional 6 guns, and I do not plan on stopping yet.
I love guns in case you haven’t noticed yet and I think that gun owners are given a bad reputation mainly due to lack of knowledge about the topic. My goal is to clear up misconceptions and give the proper knowledge to people so that they can form their own opinion from there.
Thoughts on Kids and Guns
Thoughts on Kids and Guns
As my young children start to get older, they are going to eventually come to a point where I feel ready to introduce them to guns. I’m a pretty big fan of the darn things and keep a few around, so it’s inevitable.
In order to make sure that I’m always around when they meet, I consider a quick-access safe to be a requirement for parents. Read my thoughts on them as a concept hereand a review…
