UPDATE EXCLUSIVE: FIRST REAL-LIFE REVIEW OF TKWR: A GO or a NO?
Well, I forgot I left 80 pages (the first five chapters I thought were the first ten) in the hands of a human being not related to me, not an expert on Tolkien but has read him and knows The Hobbit and LOTR well, and is extremely into fiction and non-fiction. So today, on my way over it dawned on me, I was going to get the first real review of five chapters of this story from a potential “buyer” should it hit the bookshelves. I am shy and don’t take compliments well except to blush so I was looking for “horrible”--the worst story ever written. If Tolkien were alive he’d have you shot at sunrise. Much to my surprise, I didn’t get that.
First review of first five chapters of The Kingdom of the Woodland Realm Trilogy--Book II: The Saga of Thranduil [by a human being not online or related to me reading pages]:Â
“Descriptive, well-developed characters. Thranduil’s character well developed and believable--essentially, I nailed him. Relationships between characters incredible--especially Oropher and Thranduil (at this point). Well-written and researched. A story Tolkien would love. Each chapter leaves you wanting more. For you, @bellevox: Film Worthy.”
She wants to read the next 5 chapters, and didn’t want to let go of the first five. That was what touched me more than anything--someone holding my work like a treasure. This is what dreams are made of.
All in all, it was Thranduil’s first win on the outside with non-Tolkien experts, so his next stop will be the experts--again with the 300+ pages. What is clear that out of three books, The Saga of Thranduil is the very heart of the Trilogy and when I make known its completion to the powers that be (including a publisher sitting on the sidelines), I can only imagine what is about to come.Â
I would say, it is a “go”. She also thought the readers will be the ones that propel Thranduil to the next level, so I thank every single one of you humbly. I didn’t get here without you.
Disclaimer: Said reader likes Lee Pace and thought his character needed more to do in the films, @fortunatelyclevercandy, @peonies-and-poppies, @cristinaowl88, @storytimeteller1, @lasimo74allmyworld, @pixie-dust-anon, @earrinde-lancaeriel, @elven-nicknacks, @morticias-romance (missed you), @babschwi, so naturally, when “film-worthy” came up, so did Lee. I get a lot of that for some reason.
