I adopted my first fish today!
He’s a little crowntail Betta
His tank:
I cycled it for a month and planted some live plants in with the fake ones
Rhodey enjoying his tank, he enjoys zipping around all over, and finally made a truce with his reflection this morning.
He took his first water change like a champ, but I'm on a bit of a learning curve, so I did remove him while I refilled the tank.
He seems to enjoy hiding in his rock, when hes not busy cruising around the tank. He has so much personality, I don't understand how people look at these fish and think "throwaway pet".

I finally got a betta. Her name is Kynareth and she's the most beautiful girl I've ever seen. The tank is pretty bare save for the plants but I'll be adding decoration later, something for her to explore. Here she is exploring her tank for the first time.

Abandoning ship
Sharon later admitted that her main reason for accompanying me on an early-season foray onto Huron was so that she could decline my invitations for the rest of the summer , saying, "No thanks; I was just out there ..."
Ahhhhh .... OK .... Because I was wondering who that person was who practically jumped into the boat Tuesday evening knowing full well that once the sun goes down, late June is not really summer out on the big lake.
But the sun stayed warm until 8 p.m. and we came home with a small steelhead (bottom photo), the first fish of the year.
Still, it's no great surprise that Sharon may be done for the season. As diversions from the tedium of my diversion, even mojitos and Facebook (top photo) have their limits.

I didn’t actually promise grandson Colin he would catch his first-ever fish over the weekend, but I surely gave him the impression that it was likely because I knew of a little lake not far from our house that was full of hungry little bluegills, sunfish and other various pumpkin seeds.
They would never add up to a fish fry, but that wasn’t the nature of our mission.
The fish outsmarted us for the first half-hour or so, nimbly swimming off with the whole-kernel corn we used for bait without ever taking the hook.
Then - finally! - the bobber went down and Colin reeled in a bluegill that fell just a little shy of a Master Angler candidate. I held the fish; he took the photo.
I caught my first ever fish today! It was a big largemouth bass. I got to clean and cook it with my uncle and it was absolutely delicious! I think I’m decent and cutting out the ribs and slicing the skin off, and the resulting fillet was bigger than my hand. We got some more bass and a pumpkinseed sunfish so we had a lovely little feast for dinner. There were some more sunfish and bluegills, but they were too small to keep, but they were fun to reel in and pose for pictures with! Plus they’re very pretty with the iridescence and hints of blue and orange depending on the species.
My uncle was nice enough to let me reel in the fish he hooked, so that was nice. My fish turned out to be the second largest of the ones we caught, so that made me feel great! Not only did I get an edible-size fish as my first catch, but I got a rather large one for the lake we’re on!
